Sharks beat Knights, we beat Manly and Bulldogs beat Dragons.

We beat Cowboys in the first week of the finals.

We beat a busted Brisbane team in the second week.

We shock Storm in Melbourne.

We beat an overrated Roosters team to win our third premiership.

Too easy.

Honestly, I don't wanna sound crazy, Melbourne would deserve to be favourites 100% but it wouldn't be the first time they underperformed in a final at AAMI(but that's just hypotheticals branching out into more hypotheticals).

These are the occasions I can find where we've gone into the last match able to either make the finals or not make the finals:

1984, Brandy's first year, needed to win at home against Parra (3rd) to make clear 5th. Result- Lost 22-10. It was a champion Parra team going for 4 straight premierships though. It was a dead rubber for Parramatta as they could only finish 2nd or 3rd. They would end our season the following year as well.

1985: Went into the last round against Easts (who also had a slight chance of making the finals) level 5th with Manly and trailing them in F/A by 4 points. In a tremendous performance in front of 8,000 (I was one of them) fans at the Sydney Sports Ground, Alexander (who soon after would become the club's only winner of the Dally M Medal) plucked the Roosters and we won 38-6. I remember Roosters fans shouting out not to give the ball to Col Drier, who apparently had a shocker. Manly won too, and so the historic match at the SCG midweek when we beat Manly in extra time. All to no avail, as Parra would again snuff out our season by the same score as the Easts game. Predictably so, as the celebrations after the Manly game were more like a team who'd won the GF, which making the top 5 was for our blokes at the time.

1988, Lost last two against Balmain and Manly to be forced into 5th place playoff against Tigers (who went on to lose the GF), lost that too. Again two very strong sides.

2013- Went into round 26 with the barest mathematical possibility, but thats all. We'd been going well a few weeks earlier but a few hidings killed us off. In the event, although we beat Manly at Brookvale in the final game, we would have had to make up almost 100 points in F/A on the Cows, even if they had lost, which they didn't. We had lost 8-6 to the Knights in Newcastle in a very poor quality round 6 game where we got the raw prawn from Badger and Perenara, if we'd won that we would have made it. Then there was the Tigers game when the NRL ordered the club not to play Matt Moylan. But we'd been getting belted badly by the better teams anyway.

2009- Once again went into the final game with the slimmest mathematical chance, and were hammered by the Knights 35-0. This is the game I like to think of when feeling sorry for the Knights in more recent times.

There was also 2005. We needed Manly to lose to Canberra and then a win against the Tigers to sneak into 8th. Manly won but we still smashed the Tigers the next day after coming back from something like 18-0 down. Campbell was on fire that day. Manly got pumped by Parra the next week (when it was still 1 v 8). To this day, I (maybe foolishly) believe we could have beaten them if we qualified.

So as things stand at the moment we can still end up playing sharks, cowboys, manly or dragons in week 1 of the finals or a very slim chance and even miss out all together. Playing the sharks would be our worst option with others being genuine 50-50 games but a good chance of winning too. Really need to win this arvo to stay on track and maintain our confidence.

Regular season finishing the same way it started, pathetic. We don't deserve finals.

Griffin makes changes for the sake of it, he's a terrible coach. We just don't do the basics right and haven't all year. This defence is embarrassing.

Why are we cannon fodder?
Have the sharks being going great?
Dragons beat us by two points in what was a grand final for them.
Manly had a good day on the back of a lot of first half possessions.
The cowboys have a host of players injured.
Why aren't we being positive for a change? 3rd finals in 4 years, all 3 grades in finals! Come on, be loud and proud not moaning and complaining!

Penrith still has the best last 20 minute attack and defence in the comp. We just need to be in the match at half time!

I thought I was an optimistic chappy but you beat me hands down Forby. Well done, even if you are delusional.

Penrith were atrocious tonight. Make no mistake about that.

We make the finals. But does anyone feel we deserve to?

No. I hope the Dragons win tomorrow.

Prefer to play the Sharks rather than the Sea Eagles. Just a gut feeling we are due against the Sharks

Matchup mostly.

We struggle against physical teams. Manly used that strategy today.

Cronulla towled us earlier this season. Souths also exposed us with their physicaltity. Dragons too in round 1. We can't match that style of game.

Not just that though.

Edwards & Moylan both likely out, with Wallace @ 9 as well our spine is seriously compromised.

Will be 1/9 against the top 8 whatever happens tomorrow. That doesn't happen by chance.

We just played two months of semi final intensity matches. If we matched it with Manly we would've had nothing left for the finals. We probably just looked at the margin of error to miss the top eight and thought we've already done enough to make it.

In all honesty I think we will be freshened up for next week and play much better, just like how many clubs before us has done over the years.

Wallace needs to sit out next week and put in someone who can play fullback. Put whoever is playing 1 in reserves. Can't be all that bad. Get our defencive structure right. You can see the way they defend is a coaching thing not a player.

I don't know if Whare at fullback at a huge influence on our performance yesterday. He ran the ball strongly, positionally he wasn't too bad. In saying that, we looked a match better defensive team when he came into the front line. I still can't get over how poor Blakes defence was.

It'll be tough next week no matter who we play but whoever we play will be under the pump as well. Pressure does funny things to teams & at least we're used to it by now.
