Pure speculation, but I think Gus is telling porkies. I reckon it's a fair chance big Dylan will be our no 1 first week of the semis. Anyone tend to agree?

To risk Edwards we’d want to think we’re a chance of winning a few finals matches, on current form that seems unlikely.

You don't just shrug your shoulders at finals opportunities, especially not in a year where the comp is so open. If Edward's is fit enough to improve the team we should go for it.

Edwards in any shape or Crichton...

I know who I would pick. Although if his injury was a chance at being setback its not worth the risk.

With shoulder reconstructions usually from about 12 weeks post op you can start building towards full contact. From around 5 months most athletes are back to pre-injury level, this can vary of course (some slightly earlier, some later). So he would be coming back almost a full month ahead of the curve but if his most recent scans, surgeon and physio have given him the all clear and he feels fine, then it could be ok.

IMHO we have a snowflake's chance in hell of winning the comp this year, so just rest DE until next year.

Pity he cannot be given a run in the reggies to assist with match fitness if they are really considering using him.

I wouldn't bring Edwards back in. Let him heal completely. I don't think he is enough to make much of a difference anyway given the way we are playing.

Crazy to think we could still come 4th, albeit unlikely.

Dogs have been playing better though, they could beat the sharks. Would need a solid victory though.

Any contracted player can play reggies for us until FG is knocked out. After that there is a criteria I'd play him as soon as fit just incase

PENRITH legend, board member, and halves adviser Greg Alexander says his beloved Panthers can’t win the title this year.

Alexander’s stunning claim comes on the eve of the club’s daunting trip to Melbourne to take on the current table toppers Storm in the last round of the regular season.

Penrith are in the top eight and will play finals, but there’s serious question marks over the team’s form given recent losses to the Warriors, Knights, and some close calls against other bottom-eight teams.

Alexander is prepared to write off the club he led to a premiership in 1991.

“Unless Penrith shows something (Friday) night against the Storm they will battle to win the competition,” Alexander told Fox Sports.

The Fox Sports commentator and rugby league guru is also prepared to write off St George Illawarra given their horror recent form.

He’s also sceptical about the Warriors, despite the New Zealand club making finals for the first time since 2011.

“I don’t think the Dragons can win,” he said.

“I know we’ve seen sides have poor form leading into the finals … the Sharks did that, the Cowboys did that last year, but the Dragons have been in poor form for a long time now.

“I don’t think they can resurrect that, I really don’t think they can turn it around and win a competition. They might be able to win a game in the finals but they won’t be able to win the competition.

“I don’t think the Warriors can win the competition. Despite their good form I just can’t see the Warriors winning a big game when it matters against a big team up the top of the competition.”

With three teams written off, there’s five remaining who Alexander believes will compete for the top gong.

And while Melbourne lead the competition heading into finals, it’s South Sydney who Alexander is tipping to take home the shield.

He says Broncos could also be a smoky.

“If I’m going to pick a team right now I’m going to pick South Sydney to win the comp,” he said.

“I think Brisbane with their forward pack, with their bench, with their outside backs, with Darius Boyd finding form is important. They could possibly win the comp.”

The opening paragraph kind of contradicts what he actually says, though.

Hopefully he is telling the players the opposite. Realistically he is right but don't need the players thinking that

People will only read the headline but this is the important bit:

"UnlessPenrith shows something (Friday) night against the Storm they will battle to win the competition,” Alexander told Fox Sports."

He's right. This is the game we need to show some fight.
