Because he's from tweed heads and has probably always wanted to play for NSW and Australia.

Actually wanted to play for Qld and had to declare for NSW because he ticked 3 out of 5 criteria FFS :) Declared for NSW and ditched PNG because Country had a few injuries last year - what a joke! It was the newspaper who told CRL he qualified last year and they rushed paperwork through. And you wonder why we complain.

So explain how a 7-year PNG test player like Mead born in PNG suddenly wants to play for Australia?

Because he can under the loose international rules. They can change and no punishment

Being raised in Australia makes him just as eligible for both.

Kurt Batiste was named in the 29-man squad - what happened to him? Someone had a quiet word in his ear probably in case City need a back-up hooker in 2 years time.

Standalone Origin weekends may possibly help international RL - at least more than now. At least they will be picking 17 from each side who are going to play in the bl**dy thing. Not 34 never going to be NSW also-rans in a trial at a bush park stadium.

If tests ran alongside Origin then all though farting around in City-Country could play tests. City-Country serves no purpose - the quality is rubbish.

City v Country is useless but all playing there would play for NSW and Australia if picked anyway

Yes but half of all City-Country players will never get anywhere near Origin. So if they scrapped City-Country then Internationals would be the only rep football they could play

Aren't they all changed to Australia? Regardless City v Country would be gone it's only for TV now anyway. SOO will be on the Sunday

They've picked the best teams possible.

The reality is they are all Australian players from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I wouldn't expect the monoculture of English RL to understand this concept. They are all eligible for origin.

The only player who didnt grow up in Australia is uate and he, to this day, has never played a game of rugby league in Fiji. He is a Country Rugby League player so he's been picked for Country.
They are Australians that had elected to play for another country at international level. Whether or not they would rather play for Australia is irrelevant because that's not what they're doing here. Danny Brough is an Englishman who has elected to play for Scotland, if he was sitting out Scotland matches to participate in an England trial match then that would be a problem just as this is.

Nonsense. These players have chosen NOT to play for another country. That's the point.
In favor of playing in a (relatively unimportant) non-international match, which is fundamentally a problem. If they were playing for Australia it would be a different story.

But don't you have to have moved here before 16? Waqa was 20+

Which meat head picks the likes of Mead, Waqa and Uate when there is a International game on? These guys will never ever get anywhere near a Kanagaroos test jersey.

With City-Country and the Test, NSW are effectively tying up 40-50 players. Half will never get near Origin and half will never get within a mile of an Australian jeresy

Anyone who grew up in the Country would disagree with you that its "unimportant". That includes places like Newcastle and Wollongong
