I liked him he was a goer. He had a great debut at fullback. And while only a short NRL career he had some big moments. Goal from the sideline to win against the Sharks. Even managed to be alright playing hooker off the bench at one point.

Too small for first grade in the end.

What I remember of Sammut is him dropping the ball in contact on kick returns again and again and again. Of course, memory being what it is, I may be overexaggerating, but still.

I was trying to be nice haha.

I think a big knock on him was he didn't play to the gameplan. Somehow he found himself at halfback. 2008 was a torrid year for our spine and I probably hated it more than 2007 when we got the spoon.

6. Blair
7. Sammut

He does have a decent highlight reel. Had his moments. But they were his moments.

For short periods of time Mick Gordon and Rhys would have been the best fullbacks we have had but I vote for Dyl because of how good he has been for a long period of time.

Agreed with those who say Flash was the only player who could have matched Edwards. He was an all rounder. Workhorse and just super consistent and reliable. But he barely played at fullback for us so he really isnt in the conversation unfortunately as a fullback. Only as a winger.

Edwards isnt as flash as Wesser was. But he is a thousand times more reliable, consistent and stronger defensively. Edwards is miles ahead of everyone.

Edwards gets through 200+ metres a game, barely makes mistakes, barely out of position and his teams are just winners. Panthers, NSW and Australia all had improved results with him in the team. The only stat that matters is who won. Edwards is one of the best ever for that.

Even if his teams look rough. They get the result more often than not. I wouldn’t trade himmfor sny fullback in the competition. They might look fancier while losing. But I will take the wins

Too much focus these days on Fullbacks in attack - as the age old saying goes, Attack wins you games, defence wins you championships

it's a halves job to provide attack and spark - i want my fullback to organise the defence as best as possible, help us up field with tough carries and importantly, backup and finish off the linebreaks as required.

any other answer than Edwards is wrong

This works because Yeo is simply incredible. Take him out and Edwards/Kenny would really struggle imo

How so?
Does Yeo tell him where to position himself? Perfectly 99 times out of 100? His defence at FB is easily the best in the comp.

I’m also pretty sure that Yeo doesn’t run any of his metres for him….

I just don’t really get where you’re coming from at all to be honest…

Dyl is probably the worst attacking fullback in the comp. He's also the best defensive fullback I've ever seen but both these things are true.
Ivan created a system that uses Yeo as the 3rd play maker because our 1 and 9 are super limited. Will be interesting to see if it holds up with Luai leaving.

Yeo put away a lot of the ball playing this year, particularly in the opposition 20. I’d be interested to see his run to pass ratio for this year versus last, because the eye test tells me he is running a lot more. Before I get a hysterical reply the running has been awesome; he seems to always find the half gap, gets 3-5 pcms and a quick ptb; this is not a criticism.

The attack this year has been about width; long accurate passes out of dummy half (again would be an interesting stat to see our length of pass versus other teams) and either attack the edge or bring the runner back under to destroy the middles. It’s attritional but bl00dy effective!!

Yeah 100% ran more and that's because lots of forwards weren't themselves. Without Luai he'll be ballplaying more again in 2025

That’s just simply not true.

Trent Barrett was the brains behind Yeo’s role and the main reason that Yeo has been running so much this season is the improvement in Dylan’s attack.

Yeo himself said in a post match interview that he’s felt more able to take the line on because Dylan is constantly putting himself in Dangerous positions.

Man for someone who holds his opinions so high you really struggle with some basics

Two things I say in response to this weak post.

I don’t hold my opinion high at all. Footy is not much more than a hobby of mine, I’m just fortunate enough to have put myself in a position where I can pretty much do it full time. The guys I spent a lot of time with know shit loads more than me.

You haven’t said what’s wrong with my comment.

It's very clear Dylan's ballplaying is poor and since he grew up as a 6 it's not going to improve much more. He's brilliant but he's very limited.

Clear to who? Penrith Panthers, NSW and Kangaroo selectors… you think a FB with “Poor” ball playing is making any of those teams….

He’s obviously not the best attacking FB in the game, but to say he’s “Poor” is just stoopid.

No mate it's poor, what other fullbacks just plonk themselves on the right hand side and barely touch the ball in the opposition half?

One of biggest reasons NSW won this year was Dyl just getting the f**k out of the way. Teddy kills every side he's in
