Panthers officially announce Griffin as coach

Usually agree with you mate - but not so much here.

Brennan has been made 2IC? Surely that's good?

Rothfield is never right, and if anyone looks at Gould's career he's no idiot - from effectively being player coach at Souths to now, he's achieved more than most.

That said, I am puzzled by Griffin

That's great, it puts Brennan one step closer to being a head coach. Unfortunately it also means he will be doing his apprenticeship under Griffin, who showed major flaws at Brisbane.

My issue is that Gould said again and again that Brennan was NRL ready and every time a job came up, he said he'd fit it. Then when one at his own club came up, he gave it to someone with a very unimpressive CV. If Gould is such a maestro (and I agree, he's done a lot in his career) and he thinks Brennan is so red-hot, he should have appointed him and taken him under his wing. He's won premierships, Origins and above all he made Ricky Stuart look like a decent coach, so he should be best placed to do so.

Gould as I said has achieved a lot but to me he's taking on all the appearances of a man who gets more stubborn, more pig headed, more completely set in his ways each year. That doesn't work in league. You can see it in the way he calls the game, the decisions he makes and the fact he's just fired Ivan Cleary a year early to take on a guy that I doubt anyone in the world can make a case for being anywhere as good as Ivan.

But yeah sorry I got carried on Rothfield. Knows the ball is oval and that's about it.

Penrith has the best, if not equally the best junior nursery 'Resource' in the country.

I don't get this comment.

Kids such as Moylan, Cartwright, Jennings boys, DWZ, Wade Graham, Austin were all at his disposal at some point to call up on.

We have the most juniors but it is more than that. Facilities, coaches, medical staff and specialist etc Brisbane should have the best of all that.

Question to Panther supporters ....

Who is the biggest whinger in your player roster ....?

Under Griffin, he'll run the show.

Would have to imagine that would be Soward.

What does Griffin need to achieve for a pass mark in his first season? For mine the bars should be:

Year 1 - Top 8 (and win a match in finals ideally)
Year 2 - Top 4 / Week 3 of finals
Year 3 - GF appearance

If injured like this year. A top 8 finish should be a pass mark. But if we keep a healthy roster he needs a higher bar than Cleary had. He's walking into the club at a great time with a strong roster and the biggest and best junior nursery in the game.

If Cleary is sacked after 11th with his injury toll. Griffin gets about the same leniency.

Sorry dude, there just isn't a universe where I could imagine Griffin making a GF with any team, let alone the Broncos.

I will say only one thing about Cleary as a coach, "when considering your footy tips, serious consideration must be given to the side he coaches."
Can you say the same thing about a side coached by Anthony Griffin?

Gould reckons Griffin laid the platform for Bennett's success this year.

I'd say it's more like a team unshackled running like they were bound and now free!

I'm not quite sure what it was that you were expecting from us? We're the only club that he has coached, so we're the only ones who have any credible opinion of his coaching ability. End of story.

Doesn't sound like a side coached by Benny to me, not since the days he had Renouf and co at his disposal anyway.

Bennett coaches mistake-free percentage football, with outstanding defence. Attack is just used as a means to score points. It almost won him another premiership, but negativity lost it. HIS negativity.

A bit like Thaiday appearing in an NRMA ad wearing their logo. It's called sponsorship.

They don't need the fridge sitting there with the product lined up and looking special. That is just grotesque. Yes the Broncos advertise our sponsors too, but only with, you know, the logo on the cardboard backdrop?
