Doesn't sound like a side coached by Benny to me, not since the days he had Renouf and co at his disposal anyway.

Bennett coaches mistake-free percentage football, with outstanding defence. Attack is just used as a means to score points. It almost won him another premiership, but negativity lost it. HIS negativity.

This insight alone makes him the greatest coach of all time.

If I was rebuilding a club I would want Griffin for the first few years and then Cleary after that.

Why? Cleary rebuilt the Warriors from shit and Panthers from shit. Griffin's never done it with anyone. I'd want Cleary over Griffin every day.

I can't say he re-built the Broncos as we were never in any sort of dire position to begin with but he did develop and nurture our current crop of players, his decisions at the top level are what cost him his job

Cleary had one good season (4th place) in 4 completed seasons.

His predecessor also had one good season (2nd place) in 4 completed seasons.

The only thing that makes Cleary the more successful of the two is that Elliott got a spoon and Cleary didn't, by the skin of his teeth.

How abput Cleary winning week 1 of finals against the minor premiers sending us to week 3 while Elliott was eliminated from second place in straight sets to lower teams.

Elliott was a genius, they managed to last 26 rounds of football by kicking to their winger.

Well that's Penrith f**ked.

This guy kept Hunt out of 1st grade, let Granville go, put Hoffman in at 5/8 & recruited Scott Prince.

Best of luck :thumb

Interesting to see how this works out.

The scary thing for Panthers fans is this doesn't seem to be a player revolt against the coach. There may be a few players who are loyal to Cleary and new coaches always have different ideas on which players should be kept or signed.

If Griffin fails then another coach comes in with more ideas again and that's when good players start leaving because they fall between the cracks.

Gould is no dummy but this is a big risk to remove a good coach from what looks like a settled side on the rise.

Elliott lost his semi final from 2nd place by two points, 4 tries all.

Cleary won his semi final from 4th place by 1 point, 3 tries all.

Both lost the following match.

Not a huge lot of difference. A close win is better than a close loss, no doubt, but they both could have gone the other way very easily.

Yeah there's not much difference between a close win and a close loss. Tell that the Broncos and Cowboys fans.
