Spokesman John Brady told us: "You've got to remember their CEO Paul Osborne has done a lot of buying this year. [Timana Taha, Justin Poore and Shane Shackleton.]

"This has happened before at other clubs.

"Why did they spend their money on everyone else but then not have enough money left over for Kevin Kingston? It was their choice to go out and buy the other players.''

he has a point

My reading of this is the NRL didn't say that the Parra boys were not allowed to salary sacrifice to keep Kingston. The issue was that under the rules, he's worth $115k under the salary cap for next year, but even with the offered salary sacrifice, Parra will only have $60k to spend, ie. we'd still be $55k short. I'm sure if $120k had been offered up, the NRL would have had no option but to approve it.

so if a player gets a contract boost for next season, the NRL will be happy to include it in the cap - yet if they willingly take a paycut, they won't deduct it .... dickheads!

if thats what his teammates are willing to do to keep him at the club then it should be allowed - AND encouraged in a league where loyalty is disappearing fast

why the f**k were the CHEATING bulldogs allowed to do it a few years back to "keep their team together"? - a team that was put together by cheating the rules in the first place .... yet now, no other team can do it to accomodate one of their mates on minimum wage .... typical f**king dickheads at the NRL - no consistency in anything they do, just bumble their way along making sh*t up as they go to suit whatever they want at the time

that's something I have been wondering. if Kev's match payments are included in the cap shouldn't Finch's payout plus hus earnings from the Storm this year be included as well, rather than the base salary that it was reported that he had signed to stay on with them.

Burty offered to take a paycut again? Man, the guy is a bloody legend of a bloke, I tell you what.

Which brings me to my question - didn't Burty already take a paycut a few years back? Why, then, is he NRL not allowing it to happen again now? Double standards?

when he re-signed he took a slight downgrade on what he was on at the time, I think that would be a slightly different scenario as it was a contract

what the fab six are talking about doing is varying an existing contract

Well said mate, so a side that was blatantly cheating the cap can do it but Parra who from memory haven't even gone over by a cent can't let Kinga stay. It stinks like a lot of things that go on in the NRL.

sh*t like this makes me so angry. I can understand the theory behind what the NRL are saying, but for f*ck sakes where is the common sense??????
Common sense has been lacking in this game for a very long time. I hope the lack of it does not cause it's downfall somewhere down the track.

What would stop all 6 going into retirement & Parra accepting all contracts being null & void, the re-signing them the following hour after they all come out of retirement on the same contract less 10k a piece?

I have no idea why it wouldn't work but I'm curious as to why it wouldn't.

You are not wrong there, Hellsy. It is AT EVERY level of the game.
People can't see the forest for the trees. Things are so uncomplicated, it takes someone a full time job to complicate them...and there could lie the problem..

our mates, Bec and Sloth are running a story about an e-mail that Guru sent to ossie about pleading with him to do something about signing Kinga and has revealed that him, Caylo, hindy, Fui, Burty and benny have offered to take a pay cut to keep him.

John Brady from the NRL has apparently put his foot down saying it can't be done and they refuse to be flexible with the situation, it appears now that he will take up the same offer to join Penrith.

i've been thinking about it, this squad would have to be the tightest group of players since the glory era. i sence a premiership within 2 years...

The Dogs were 2 million over the salary cap in 2002 yet were able to keep just about all of that team to eventually win the premiership in 2004 by allowing the players to take a big cut in their salary .......why was that ok back then ?

Fair enough. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

I still can't see the issue, though - I mean, if a player initially signs for $100,000 and then later changes his mind and willingly agrees to accept $80,000, then that should not pose a problem in my opinion.

Interesting...

If the player and club mutually agreed to end and/or alter the contract, where is the legal dilemma? Where is the problem that the NRL foresees?

They always whinge about loyalty being dead in the game, and yet here is an instance of true loyalty - ffs, Kinga was offering to pay back the money he rightfully earned! - and they're going to allow it to die.

For shame, NRL. For shame.
