Let's get a few facts correct here and this will be the last time I talk about this because quite frankly it's getting tired and boring of the same sh!t regarding the rubbish we continue to read. Thank god these AGM?s come around once a year.
The Season Tickets that were purchased by Roy were for 3rd party sponsors and corporates. These were sponsor commitments from prior to 2009, Being the commencement of the new Board?s tenure, and when the commitment was concluded Roy asked for these to be invoiced to the individuals. They were invoiced and subsequently paid.
The 900 page Russell Report which the newly elected board did only produced 1 thing against Roy, that Bob Bentley's bonus which as in his contract and signed by all board directors was paid after the elections and before the financial year. It was a contractual obligation and it had to be paid.
Roy was never suspended or found guilty of any wrong doings and the board reprimanded Roy without understanding the implications in the Constitution, which resulted in Roy not able to run for Board for 2 years. OLGR (Office Liquor Gaming and Racing) have gone through the 900 page report and are continuing their investigations into matters that have occurred over the last 18 months interviewing both directors and staff members of the Leagues Club.
Regarding the possible payout to Bob Bentley, why didn't the club negotiate a payout or settled this when they terminated his services rather sacking Bob and now the club has been taken to court and could put the Leagues Club out of pocket up to $550,000? If it's the same lawyer from the AGM, the club could be in a bit of strife.
Regarding the actual financials for the Leagues Club, what the overall figures don't show
you is the following:
Profit $3.8 mil. The NRL grant that each club gets was $7.1 mil up from the previous year of
$4.3 mil (that's an extra $2.7 mil). Property valuations up $1,4 mil. If the NRL gave clubs the
same grant like 2012, we actually made a loss for the first time since 2008. We can count our
lucky stars that the TV deal gives more clubs a bigger grant now.
2008: NRL Grant $3.1 mil Profit -$9.1 mil
2009: NRL Grant $3.1 mil Profit $1.1 mil
2010: NRL Grant $3.4 mil Profit $3.3 mil
2011: NRL Grant $3.6 mil Profit $5.2 mil
2012: NRL Grant $4.3 mil Profit $5.3 mil
2013: NRL Grant $7.1 mil Profit $3.3 mil
You have to give credit when it's due and Bob deserved it making $15 mil profit over those years as well as the reno's that took place.
People can sit here and whinge that they sold some units, they were instructed to do this from
the bank to reduce the debit the Leagues Club occurred in 2008.
I think Roy decided not to sue Mr Barrett from the SMH cause the article clearly showed no proof or
evidence of any misconduct and he firmly believes if the members want to believe that story
without seeking the truth, then that's their opinion and they are entitled to it. Both Glenn Jackson
and Danny Weidler both phoned Roy to retaliate but I believe he doesn't feel he needs to set the record
straight cause those who know him, know he is an honourable man.
Still to today, people like Aunty Kaye, Nathan Cayless, Luke Burt, Craig Catterick, Hayden Knowles, Wayne Beavis, Brian Smith, Nick Politis, Ray Dib and more have the ultimate respect for Roy and I've seen this with my own eyes.
Yes they may have been able to do some things better along the way, which they will probably agree, but it's a learning process and to continue seriously bagging out the bloke is getting very boring and even to the stage quite pathetic. Have a look at our renovated Club today compared to what they inherited in 2009. And there were further improvements planned.
We have a game on Monday which is much more important than this rubbish going on.
We beat the Sharks and we are back in this comp.
If we can stay within teams around 6th and 7th, we need to ensure we finish out games like the Tigers @ ANZ a few weeks back.
See u at the game.
Have a great day everyone.
