I'm not a watcher but the NYC ladder suggests we've played three shitty sides this year for three wins, and one gun side for a big loss. We also got smashed by the competition leading Panthers in a trial.

I never shit stir merkin

We've got him tied up to 2018, so I'm letting the Gods wage war against all-comers so that Bevan stays with us as a one club man until retirement. I think its inevitable sooner rather than later that Bevan will be our next super quality NRL winger bar when Manu, Hurrell & co run right over the top of him during these next two seasons or so. Having Gordon mentoring Bevan is a massive blessing for French, Semi and our club. Even if Hayne comes back, Bevan has a massive NRL future in front of him playing 14+ years exclusively for the Eels. :D:D:D

I am not convinced yet by any means. We are pretty solid in defence given the standard of the NYC but it isn't a patch on the steely resolves shown by our first-graders.

Our biggest issue is probably our forward pack. Twal and Amone are a really strong starting pair of props but we haven't got a great deal of value coming off the bench. We are leveraging pretty massive minutes out of Twal as a result. Jack Morris is a very solid player who can flash a big play at times but the Field brothers lean towards the worker mold.

There are the weapons elsewhere to make us a threat on any given day. Troy Dargan is in outstanding form and was already dissecting teams without the presence of Bevan French while Tyrell Fuimaono is playing on our'weak' side, which is to say the edge opposite of Dargan and he is still outputting stupid numbers (leading the competition in tackle breaks, posting 200m a game as a centre).

Goal kicking is also a huge issue. We don't have anyone that looks anywhere near confident as a first-choice option.

We can challenge for the Top 8 and from there anything can happen but I think we might need one or both of Frank Salu and Jarrod Thomkins to kick down the door from Ron Massey Cup or some of our SG Ball talent to play above their age and give us some punch from the bench is we are to get anywhere near the big dance.

Dargan was exceptional today. I know Bevan will rightfully get many of the plaudits although Dargan controlled the game from start to finish, especially the first 20 where we went at a point a minute. He was also pretty good with his goal kicking. He had try assists kicked a 40/20 scored a nice try himself when he bamboozled the defence and was an excellent leader. Bevan's speed also caused all sorts of trouble for the opposition defence.

That's good news. Regardless of what happens with Bevan, a genuine half is a lot harder to find.

Dargan plays the NYC at a NRL tempo (not to say he is near NRL ready mind you), or at least that is how it feels after a month of footy. He is constantly probing the defensive line by attacking it directly at speed and then looking for his options rather than playing laterally from the get-go. Good vision as well and he is willing to act on it, kicking in behind early if he sees the defence pushing up for example.

French was very good for his first outing in a month. Terrific instincts at the back and he tends to smell out the ball in attack and defence.

So no big Forwards coming thru 40/20?
I think Twal could play NRL atleast by 2018. He is like you mentioned a worker.

How do you rate Amone and Morris as far as first grade potential? Are they worth keeping an eye on or more likely to fizzle out thru wenty?

Salu and Tomkins are big units and have been two boys that we have taken a slow burn towards development wise, looking to iron out your typical big-man kinks. They have done the hard yards in that area but now it is up to them to kick down the door to the 20s.

SG Ball prop Steve Dresler is one to keep an eye on. Would not be shocked in the least if he pushes up almost immediately at the completion of the 18s within the coming 2 months or so, depending on how deep we run into the finals.

Hard to gauge Amone and Morris. Neither are anywhere near out and out stars in the 20s but Morris is close to my favourite player in the team. Tough, gritty and a standout effort player - nails loads of the 1%-ers. As I said earlier, he can also flash the odd big play by running great lines or being that one guy to push across in cover and he contributes nicely to both sides of the ball. Could have the temperament to go on and forge a first grade career but could also just end up being another NYC player.

Amone looks like an undersized prop in the big scheme of things. Runs hard and has a knack for getting in between ruck defenders which makes him a danger in the 20s. Has also played plenty of games at lock for us but the same issue with height surrounds that position too. Very good ball player for a tight forward and is comfortable playing at the line both to a big man on a tip-on play or out the back to one of his play-makers.
