I think the sort of halves that excel are the Sandow, Marshall and Johnson types, because of the type of game it is. I think guys who play like DCE are on a hiding to nothing at that level

I don't think there was any hype on DCE coming out of the 20s. Obviously he stepped up in the QLD Cup and the rest is history.

Matterson has a unique point of difference in his size and speed but he also has strong fundamentals. There is no guarantee that he will make the jump to the NRL but his efforts in the NSW Cup this year were encouraging.

Dockar-Clay is very much a project player. Went through a rough patch mid season but bounced back. There are some obvious flaws in his game but so too are there elements of genius. Unlike Matterson his size counts against him but with the club signaling that he will play for Wenty next year we will quickly find out how he handles the big boys.

But you've got to get someone to take them.......
I have no doubt Manly would be interested in any of those blokes, struggling for depth in the forwards. St George as well. The Cowboys would be giggling at picking him up for chump change. Knowing us we are probably paying for him to rip us a new one next season.

Well considering he was in the top 25 paid players in the club you'd hope so.

What we need are forwards willing to sign outside the top 25, because we have enough in the top 25 already.

The only members of that pack graduating this year are Tanginoa, Mauala and Kamikamica. I'd be surprised if the latter two ever play first grade. Plus there's Moeroa, Pauli and Pritchard who have all played first grade already.

Of the remainder, they all graduate next year except for Twal and Fuimaono who graduate the year after. Who will play first grade? Probably Aloiai, and maybe also Tepu-Smith and Fuimaono. The rest of them could be twice the player they are after the off season. It's hard to tell with young players, especially forwards.

Well obviously as the other 3 already playing in the NRL weren't playing tonight I wasn't referring to them.

Agree forwards can develop a bit later too. The two who can still play SG Ball I will give the benefit of a couple more seasons.

The bloke who played his first full season in the NRL at age 27? There must've been something holding him back until his late 20s.

He's hardly a star now even. He just plays in a good pack where he's free to be one dimensional.
Neither did Gower,Mau or Edwards and they are import member's of our pack for next season Moa has been one of the form Props the last two years. You must have missed him rip it up for the Kiwi's against Australia earlier in the year.

The only thing that will stop Tanginoa making it as one of the best forwards in the NRL is injury. Doesn't matter if he is short, can't step, offload etc he is f*cking weapon

In that first half when the other 12 players on the field were playing like donkeys he was leading from the front almost trying to embarrass them into playing better. The kid has ability an he has heart he will go a long way, wish him all the best.

Matterson reminds me alot of Curtis Sironen. I think he is only playing in the halves because he has far superior football skills than the rest of the blokes in the team.

It's about getting someone to take them at full freight (or very close to it). With Lussick in particular, we might only get 50% of the cap value back.

It's also worth remembering that Kelepi had every right to stay and fight for a spot.

I reckon the reason we let go of Tanginoa is because he was the only one we could get rid of for full freight.

More to the point, they were important members of our pack this season where Tanginoa wasn't.

Agree he runs the ball well, but he's poor in the wrestle. I'm sure Tanginoa will be just as good one day but we need blokes who are just as good right now.

Injury ruined his season. Bit hard to assess him on this years work. Last year he was one of our best forwards at just 18.

Injury ruined him last season too. It's become a bit of a pattern.

And he wasn't one of our best forwards last year, he was just a powerful runner on the edges (something we had lacked for years), so merkins got excited. Especially because of his age. But he's also a shitty edge defender, like Taumalolo.

Besides Mannah and maybe Lussick he was one of the few forwards to bend the line and hit hard in defence. He was easily one of our better forwards last year. He was 18/19 playing first grade of course of struggled with injury playing against the big boys. SBW was also injury prone as well his first few years of first grade.

I'm glad we've gotten rid of Tanginoa. To play his style of game in the NRL you need to be 190cm and 120kg not 180cm and 110kg. Josh Aloiai will be a far superior player to Tanginoa.

SBW also did more than just run straight and hard.

SBW is a freak, pretty unfair comparison i'm just saying young blokes playing in the forwards in their teens get injured no matter how good they are. Curtis Sironen, Bryce Cartwright etc etc. Should their clubs get rid of them???

No, because they do more than just run straight and hard. If Epi was good at wrestling, if he had footwork before the line, if he had an offload, or if he had half-like skills like Cartwright and Siro do then you'd be more concerned. But the fact that he can only run 1 line, is incredibly small for a middle forward, and will get dominated playing in the middle in the NRL means that he's no big loss.

I doubt Aloiai will be better but one bloke who is already is Tepai Moeroa - a genuinely good defender too.
