Never said he was shit, but as others have pointed out he's very one dimensional. He's good at what he does but like most blokes that run hard and fast they'll look good in the NYC and the junior grades but once they hit first grade everyone is the same size and the defence gets better and all that power they once had is nullified. A player like Josh Aloiai is made for first grade. He's big but not overly large, he's got a big motor, he hits hard in defence, and when he runs the ball in attack he runs a bunch of lines and when it's time to run straight and hard he makes a lot of ground.

I reckon letting kelepi go was as simple as we had to release some players to either free up cap space to stay under or to sign someone and kelepi was an easy option.

Loko at least was 192cm and 112kg at his heaviest. Neither are huge losses in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't like they were the next Hayne, Thurston, or Smith.

This is a fair point as well. It's all well and good to have talented young players but you can have too many.

Even though it would suck to look back and say we let him go, i hope Kelepi has a long and illustrious career.

He is a great young kid and i hope he excels.

Manly let JWH go and it worked out well for both parties. Manly won a comp in 2011 and Maria-Hargreaves won last year.

It always seems to work out best for everyone bar Parra, and Cronulla which is a given.

Well, if you only focus on the decisions that go wrong like Said Hanrahan, and forget all of those that didn't matter much either way, then that's what you'll find. Yep, in retrospect it would have been nice to have kept Tupou, Williams, and some people who I can't remember at the moment. But by the same token, I don't think we've been disadvantaged by letting O'Hanlon, Blair, Inu, Horo (sort of) and friends go. The fact that someone ends up playing FG somewhere else doesn't automatically mean that we made the wrong decision (e.g. Ava Seuman$#%)....it depends what we would have had to give up to keep them. Our recruiting/ retention over the past decade has generally been poor, but I think the last 18 months have been a vast improvement.

I will agree with you on the last 18months or so, since Brian Smith left the club it was absolutely atrocious. Even in the Brian Smith days he made plenty of mistakes but he was always able to produce a competitive squad through his work with juniors and smart purchases. Shame we couldn't get him here in a Gus gould type capacity.

i really like the look of josh aloiai. Looks really tough with a huge motor, enough mobility to play on the edges with enough toughness to compete up the middle. He's got a smart offload and looks like a real competitor, looks like NRL material.

Yep, and we'll still make some decisions that don't turn out so well.....but hopefully we'll get more right than wrong.

The Club needs to become far better at recruiting the right players into the Under 16s and 18's teams and then getting those players through to play in the NRL. This is one reason why we have under performed for the last few years.

We need look at the Roosters particularly, but also the Storm and Manly and what they have managed to achieve over the last decade or so with either no or limited junior players in their area.

Having said that I think we possibly are heading in the right direction with this issue, but time will tell. We certainly have not shown a propensity for making the right decisions in the past.
