Hayne was a freak.

Don't forget French has only really been in our/NRL system for one good off-season where as others would have been in the eels system since 14-15.

Hayne already debuted at his age in 2006. Could this kid be our fullback in 2016?

It's not impossible. The fact he has been in a pro system for such a short amount of time means he has a lot of improvement in him. But then you have to ask why it took him until 18 to get picked up by an NRL club - it's not like Radradra who was living in the third world. Bevan French is from Inverell.

Could be a number of reasons, he was picked up/chased at 17 so he was still pretty young. Maybe he didn't want to move to the city at a young age. Or maybe he was pretty small at around ages of 13-16 (a real possibility) so NRL clubs were a bit cautious.

Anyhow he was playing first grade in country footy at around 16/17 so he clearly had talent. And this is pretty rare to play at such a young age, in addition to his small size - plenty of young dragon rep players come back to the country group I follow, and rarely do they play first grade. For example Adam quinlan didn't play until 19, Henry never played first grade at 16/17 yet two years later was under 20's player. Evan Aitiken was playing 18's. Majority of players go back to 18's ( where as they could be pushed up to reserves or firsts sometimes even third grade)

So he has been playing footy at a pretty high/challenging level for his age.

Matt Moylan turns 24 in June, debuts two years ago a couple of months before his 22nd birthday. Next season plays country city and is leading to race to take haynes #1 jersey. Leads the nrl in TA and LBA. Some players take time to develop, Moylan was considered an average footballer in his jnr career but some players step up around quality.

Kids mature as footballers at different ages. One kid on the team I coach was one of the worst kids on the team for years, couldnt tackle, didnt want to run the ball, but then a couple of years ago everything clicked for him. He now hits like a sledge hammer in defence and busts tackles regularly, very hard to stop. Won our forward of the year the past two years running. Its the same when they get older, not everyone is ready for the NRL once they turn 21. Some guys don't reach their potential until their mid to late 20's, Gower is a perfect example of that.

The best I have ever seen. Tim Smith is the only other player I saw in the lower grades that consistently stood above everyone else. He was a phenomenal talent.

Bad luck he couldn't tackle or run the ball,,and couldn't make the step up with the big boys..Most over-rated player EVER to pull on a blue and gold jumper - in my opinion....

Couldn't make the step up? 3 years in first grad and 3 (6 games in total) finals appearances, 2 (05 & 07) of those preliminary finals, 2 (06 & 07) of those also kicked out by cheats..........

Imagine having a halfback that got us to the finals now? All seems like a dream now compared to the shit we have witnessed since 2011.....

Seems odd that you hate him so much considering the 3 years he was here we were pretty good. What must you think of the players we have now? I don't see you criticise anyone other than Smith, who hasn't been here since like round 3 2008.

But if you want to talk about quality, we haven't even been close to the top four since 2007 - Tim Smith's last full season at Parra.

Been French had a major operation in the off season, the surgeon was astounded he could even run last year. He is starting to move freely and will get better as the surgery.frees up even more

We should have a lot to look forward to, the crunch is to keep him and develop him further

Made over 40 try assists in his rookie year. Lead the Eels to the finals and backed it again with a stellar 2007 season. The black dog got the better of him, nothing else.

Tim Smith did an awful lot right for the club, unfortunately appeared to lose control of his life. Really enjoyed watching those years hen he was on his game, some terrific memoris, 60 odd points put on the Broncos and many more

more good things than bad in his Eels career
