THE Parramatta Eels Toyota Cup team have continued their strong start to the season with a come-from-behind 30-22 victory against the Cowboys.Four consecutive tries to last year's grand finalists gave the home side control midway through the second half in the wet conditions.
But Steve Speechley's team rallied to score three unanswered tried to secure their second win of the season.

RUGBY league's push to maintain its standing as the No.1 football code in western Sydney is set to receive a boost with the decision to play the first under-20s State of Origin match at Penrith.
As derbies between the Panthers and Eels go head-to-head with the AFL's Swans-Giants clash, the ARL Commission will today announce the NSW and Queensland under-20s teams will play for the Darren Lockyer Shield at Centrebet Stadium.
''We looked at Sydney venues that can accommodate the type of crowd we would expect for the first game and Penrith made a submission to host it,'' ARLC marketing director Paul Kind said. ''We've accepted their submission and we think it is going to be a very good place to play it. We are working with the club on making sure we get a strong crowd and the club has some ideas on how we can achieve that.''

The match will be played on Saturday, April 21 during the NRL-free weekend featuring the Australia-New Zealand Test in Auckland and City-Country at Mudgee. All NSW and Queensland players eligible to play in the National Youth Competition who have not played senior representative football will be considered for selection.
Among those likely to feature for the Dean Pay-coached Blues are Newcastle back-rower Alex McKinnon, Sydney Roosters forward Boyd Cordner, Wests Tigers prop Matt Groat, Canberra winger Jack Wighton, Parramatta winger Cheyse Blair, Penrith five-eighth Harry Siejka, South Sydney fullback James Roberts and Dragons centre Nathan Green.
The Maroons are trying to convince North Queensland prop Jason Taumalolo and Canberra back-rower Josh Papalii to turn their backs on New Zealand and if they do, the pair could line up alongside Roosters centre Tautau Moga.
Kind said the match would be shown live on Foxtel and Toyota had paid for naming rights - although the teams would play for a shield in Lockyer's honour.
''He is honoured to have the recognition,'' Kind said. ''Darren is coming down for the game to present the shield and he is a real believer that this under-20s Origin concept is going to be a great spectacle and build into a great tradition. We want the game to feel contemporary, to feel modern and we feel that these young players - and indeed players into the future - would have grown up aspiring to be like Darren Lockyer.''

Love the Under 20s Origin concept!

Seems like our under 20's are doing great! looking at the stats, Frazer Masinamua can throw an offload, 6 against the Cowboys and 4 against the Broncos.

Maybe he could run a clinic for the benefit of the NRL boys ?

So what game is on before First Grade? And where is it on anyway?

Look for an Elvis impersonator to entertain the crowd pre-match.

Israel Folau's brother a Picker

Eni Folau, the younger brother of NRL turned AFL star Israel, has signed with the Maitland Pickers for season 2012.The 19-year-old front-rower will be part of the premiership plans of Pickers coach Ron Griffiths after coming to the club through family connections of winger Willie Poleo.
The 185 centimetre, 106 kilogram Easts Tigers junior was signed by the Parramatta Eels last year but did not play much with the National Youth Competition (NYC) squad.
“Eni [Folau] was signed with the Eels but played a lot of Parramatta A-grade last year,” coach Griffiths said.
“He is still eligible to play under 20s [NYC] again and he will look to play at a higher level again.”
Folau joins former Picker Damien Frize as one of two props recruited by Maitland this season. The go-to man up the middle of the paddock will once again be Colby Schrader, who also takes on the captaincy duties in 2012.
Adam Withyman, Schrader’s partner in crime last season at club and rep level, has barely been sighted during off-season training. The same goes for Newcastle representative centre Dan Randall.
This means Withyman and Randall may not be part of the starting squad when the season kicks off in a fortnight’s time.

Eels Spiel: Speechley calls for focus

BY CHRIS BOULOUS
27 Mar, 2012 01:00 AM
PARRAMATTA Eels Toyota Cup coach Steve Speechley has labelled his team's 36-20 loss to Penrith as "immature"."We trained and prepared well, but our mental preparation let us down," he said.
"The young guys tend not to focus week to week very well. They get caught up in where they're going and not the present. Individually, we didn't prepare mentally and that is something you can't turn on and off in this competition."
Jason Wehbe and Matthew Eisenhuth were the best for the under-20s team, who trailled 22-8 at the break.
