I'm not going to recap it in every post afterwards, just for those who can't be bothered going back and reading the whole thing (but still feel the need to comment about what others have said).

I dont know how much you have seen of Jennings , but you have to look at what a player does defensively, offensively , on and off the footy.I would like to see Ryan Morgan play back row as Jennings did against the sharks 42 tackles 7 carries 1 line break 1 line break assist 1 try then play 5/8 vs souths the next week for 28 tackles 9 runs for over 100mtrs over 200mtrs in kicks all this when he is a centre,when teamed with Gagan give every team they played cause for concern.both Australian scoolboys 2010 scored tries in both tests in england 21 tries between them sg ball 2010 . How did you think Wehbe played, for example? Did you get to see the game yourself?

I did indeed watch the game, and it was both awesome and surprising, given our recent form.

That said, I think a result like that makes it hard to judge any of the boys. Obviously Newcastle didn't turn up, but I enjoyed seeing the kids like Tanginoa and Masinamua, who I've never seen play before.

I think Newcastle did turn up, at least at the front and back of the game. At 12-6 down after 20mins, our boys had to rally and I think that can only be judged positively. And they went on with the job too, establishing a lead that was too big for Newcastle to claw back.

As I tried to say earlier, credit wherever credit is due for this turnaround. But in a comp like U20s with it's unpredictable and usually very open footy, I reckon it's impossible to tell who is going to go on to be something special, and who just has the potential.

I agree on-field performance is a poor guide to a junior player's ability to progress to first grade, and even NRL club scouts have to deal with this ambiguity.

The people best placed to know whether a player will make is or not are the coaching staff at the player's own club because they are able to test the players for strength, speed, power, agility, balance, etc and they can observe the player over an extended period to learn his attitude. This gives the player's club an advantage over other clubs in determining the player's likelihood of becoming a first grader - there's always going to be an element of risk when signing a young bloke who's never played first grade, but with the right set-up, a club can minimise a lot of the uncertainty and stack the odds in its favour. This is how Melbourne knew Daniel Mortimer would never amount to anything special, and cut him away.

This is why we have an academy, sorry, an 'academy'.
