Some merkin on nospam07 posted a photo of an article from 1980 showing we were the richest club. Would’ve been a fairly attractive proposition for Gibson. Would also explain how we kept that team together.

We also know that poker machines changed the game around that time (well some of us know it, you might not). In fact the disparity in poker machine legislation between QLD and NSW is why the Sydney clubs poached all the best Queenslanders and why the Brisbane comp faded into irrelevance. I couldn’t be bothered sourcing all that. If you don’t believe me that’s your business. I’ve said my piece.
