I hear TCT confirm the Flegg Coach has been moved on.
Thought he might get The Cup gig.
I guess we are sticking with Cayless.
Yeah same. It wasn’t clear if he was moved in or wanted a rest.

Interesting discussion about how players get to do pre-season and why some miss out. I remember last year they spoke about some players got to do preseason simply because it was a condition of their contract from X years ago. So there might be a Neville doing 24 preseason in front of a better player simply because his manager was able to horse trade it into the 3 year contract 2 years ago.

Last I heard we were sticking with Cayless.
He will be coaching a part time team at a couple of ballwork sessions and match day once a week. How good does he need to be? It's not like he is coaching our full time squad every day. Even the top 30 and development players who play NSW Cup spend their days training with the rest of the NRL squad, not with Nathan Cayless.

yeah look, he's not a great coach, in fact he may not even be a good coach but he was dealt with an extremely poor squad that wasn't even filled properly, he had to field part time footballers from RM cup for most if not all of the year, it was an absolute disgrace.

this is all on the R&R team.

I would think the coaches we have in SG Ball and Flegg would be more important than NSW Cup.

Okay but every NSW Cup team will have at least a couple of part timers or development list players. Even with everyone available there will only be 13 top 30 players (30 minus the 17 in first grade that week) in the side. As soon as you have a few unavailable that 13 gets whittled down and you suddenly have half your NSW Cup side made up of part timers. The Roosters reserve grade side that lost the grand final only had three NRL players and one development player in it, with 13 park footballers. They were beaten by Souths who 'stacked' their team with NRL and development list players and only had 9 part timers in the team.

I think I'd much prefer to have guys who play for North Sydney who are still vying for NRL license than those playing for Wenty.

They're all park footballers. I suppose, like with NRLW players, they're paid so little that clubs who can offer perks (e.g. jobs and accomodation) have a huge advantage over the clubs that can't.

the point I'm making is that their set up and systems are considerably more professional than Wentys?

That sounds a very proactive move. Hopefully Gus got one upped on this.

Steve O’Dea is moving as assistant coach in Flegg to Rankin from what I understand , good move given his work with the Ball winning team.

When the KOE team got the Flegg players and injuries and suspensions gave him a better squad at the end of the season, they actually won a few games. Agree with Stagger, the depth was a function of the R&R team, particularly ignoring signing competent backs and back up halves.

Round and round it goes, never stops 🤡

It would be good if the NRL bought in some sort of junior trade thing. So let's say with Sanders since we developed we could send him to Canberra but only via a trade/swap for one of their juniors. This way if develop a good one in a positions you've filled you can swap for a guy in a position in need.

I thought our back-up halves to start the year, Arthur and Asi, were decent options. I'm critical of the R&R team but looking around at "halves" in first grade it's hard to be critical for not having first grade standard halves in reserve grade.

For mine it's a problem bigger than any club, the problem lies with the NRL. They wanted to expand to 17 teams after 2 years of virtually no reserve grade and 20/21's. They eventually want to expand to 20, I believe they need to consolidate to 14.
