Hope so, you do realise we have either 27 or 28 signed for 2024 and due to not being active last November for players coming off contract this year, pickings are slim. Surely the point is that for some reason as a club some over rated the list of backs, which when you look at the Pou list really lacks anyone outside the 4/5 which included Waqa.
Going by his comments, Pou overrates our backline stocks too... which fits with his blind support for whatever the club (currently) is doing.

But you're right, there's no effective forward planning or squad succession (via retention or recruitment) that appears to be in place.

The fact the R&R team were last minute trying to sign a Merkin from the Titans and also from Raiders doesn't fill me with much hope they are/were planning very well..

But it does show that the recruitment team understand that we have a need for players in that position and are actively trying to do something about it.

Whether they succeed in doing so remains to be seen, but I'm sure they aren't sitting back thinking that we have no need for anything more than what we have.

Dunster was never going to be a factor this year as he recovered from one of the worse knee injuries seen in rugby league.
Agreed but he was already on the books and taking up cap space.
Waqa continued his regression
Agreed but he was also already on the books. You can't replace contracted players without some way to convince them outside the cap. Do we have coaching jobs to offer Dunster and Blake?
, the point remains that the backs were ignored even when in season signings were made, that’s an indisputable fact and not sure we will ever get an answer to the issue.
They weren't ignored, I'm sure the club knew how much they were spending on outside backs as a percentage of the cap, and I'd suggest it is pretty close to how much they want to be spending. Until we freed up some of that cap space (and roster slots) we were never going to be able to use it to buy replacements.

The only outside backs that are leaving from this year's top 30 are Blake and Loizou. We won't be replacing them with Joey Manu. I'd say Loizou will be replaced by someone like Cini, and you'd think Blake's cap space will be enough for a first grader. The real question is how good they expect Russell to be after another preseason. It's very exciting.

you're right, I'm lead to believe that they are working hard to add to our dwindling stocks but I still question their processes.

it wouldn't surprise me if the R&R have capped the amount they pay for our 2-5's to the point that they just price themselves out of the market, FMD! pou can carry on the way he wants but how the f**k does anyone justify how the roosters are able to come within a bees dick of a prelim with a second string 2-5's? ....even Melbourne fielded second string outside backs, and who the f**k do we have? ...Lume, Cini, Dunster and Loziou?

FMD! gimme a break.

TCT pod says that Nathan Brown (coach) has now absorbed Joey Grima's job in pathways and that Josh Hodgson will be assisting him as his right hand man. Big job for those two merkins.
Thats a surprise. Good to hear Brown is still on the books. Ill have a listen later. Ta Gronky. 👍

Well if you look at what he said on 2MMM when he packed his bags from NZ, about his girls, his wife and his need to get away from the spotlight, I'm going to say that it's not a surprise that you haven't heard much from him.

I thought that could have been be the case with Grima going.
