FYI.the Eels have just appointed the rugby league coach at Hiils Sports High to coach the SG ball team for 2024. He was previously SGBall coach at the Bulldogs I think.

So he is still involved with Hills and the Ball side?

Did you rate him DB? Do his teams play a style different to BAs?
The reason I ask is because I reckon this seasons Flegg Coach had his team playing differently to the usual Parra system. I thought his team did a lot more in the ruck particularly when on top, to slow the ptb. I also thought there was a greater urgency to ptb when in posession. They utilised Mrthurs DH skill which provided great variety but would also spread the ball confidently. A couple of their big boys absolutely smashed it when doing hit ups. Nothing half arsed For these reasons I was hoping hed get the Cup gig. It will be interesting to see when Craig Brennan raises his head.

A lot of that was on the SG ball players playing up, prior to that happening there wasn’t a lot of difference. The Ball players played the same style when they moved up and that changed the way Flegg played. 2024 has last years SG Ball coach assisting Rankin which is interesting and ensures continuity.

Awesome. There was also an article in the paper (SMH?) today re young athletes choosing government sport high schools, including Hills. The only one I'd heard of or had been aware of was Westfield, which shows I probably didn't venture than far from my old direction from Parramatta CBD.

Good to see the continuation of money being spent in the juniors. I believe we still have a few starting 17 spots open in Ball and Flegg next year. Let's hope we continue to spend money to buy the best possible players.

At least they are not just sitting back and being happy with what they have so far in the Juniors and are still out looking to pickup players that could be developed into first graders

you simply can't fault our junior development and pathways program in the last 2 to 3 years ..the seniors however is a different beast all together!

the 'she'll be right mate' attitude after making the GF last year is inexcusable..

We lost quality because of the salary cap, not because we wanted the squad to get worse.

again, that's not the issue, the issue is that we failed to replace them adequately and failed to even fill our roster, which Penrith, Manly and a few others have done already going into 24 ..

I'll double down on that and say that there was a severe lack of due diligence signing Jirah into the 30 months out before the end of the season.

dumbest signing ever.

This article was from June 2022 and mentions that for 2023 there was not many players available. So why didn't we on November 1 start looking at signing the off contract players for 2024. Now that list is small..

You fill the roster because you have to, not because you need thirty players. Waiting is the superior option when there’s no value in the market.

He is a better reserve grader than most backups. We didn’t sign him for the top 17. He only played when Lane and Matterson were unavailable. A couple of cameos off the bench. It’s dumb to complain about depth signings.

got news for you...

he's actually in the top 30 and was signed at a time we still had to 7 or 8 spots.

pou, we never filled the roster....AT ALL...

how the f**k is that a superior option?

Sorry I meant top 17. Of course he’s top 30. Check the squad succession thread.

Momoisea was signed cheap enough that we could sign Ofahengaue (on probably half a million) and Lussick (a top 17 player) after him. The time a player signed has little bearing on how much he’s on. Likewise the duration.

Bacause we were able to play merkins from outside the top 30 in round one. In round four we played another one. Why bring backups into the top thirty when you don’t have to?
