Sure, but I think missing the eight is an acceptable season outcome sometimes. The salary cap means the strength of your squad is cyclical, and when the squad is at a weak point it should be more likely to miss the eight than not. Nine teams miss the finals every year. Why should we be immune?

Moretti ended the year playing 12 minutes a week off the bench, no different to Jake Arthur the year before. It’s a reward for effort, that’s all.
