I'm going to jump in and defend @Delboy here. He has been away on holiday for the last couple of weeks and completely missed the peak of the 'Why didn't we sign Vaughan?' meme.

@Happy MEel and @I'm a loser baby have been jokingly prodding the narrative that Parramatta made a massive blunder in not offering Paul Vaughan a deal last year. Everyone is well aware that we made him a reasonable offer but simultaneously they are 'outraged' they we didn't offer him anything.

Yes yes yes Forty, that's all well and good... But why is it Lodge is allowed to play for the Boncos but we can't sign Meehan?! Outrageous!

Heres a thing, in Canada they show AFL on their sports channel about 5 times a week. There are rugby posts everywhere, and I saw a number of guys training etc with a rugby ball , even in Banff. I asked some Aussies working there, and they are bemused why the NRL isn't on sports tv given as no one knows what the heck is going on when AFL is shown

Yet another opportunity our leaders in the NRL have failed to meet

Well, everybody is well aware of it except the Sky Is Falling Brigade who believe that because he signed with the Dragons we showed zero interest and therefore are the worst run club in the NRL (and refused to acknowledge posts stating that we actually made him a very reasonable offer), which is where the "meme", such as it is, came from.

Maybe not the thread for it, but generally I find the average Canadian or American has no idea there's a difference between League and Rugby, and you can't explain it to most of them. Not sure we can blame the NRL for that.

And my point is that Rugby gets a fair bit of exposure in Canada, and as a result of the fundamental lack of understanding that they are different games, it makes it hard for the NRL.

Again Pou, as usual you comment for comments sake. Those that would be attracted would need it to be shown on a sports network, that makes it available to a wider audience than say ex pats. You never fail to miss the point to make your own

I dare say the deal with the current channel showing NRL in Canada is better than the channel you wish it was on. Not everything deserves to be whinged about. One thing I know that most people apparently don't, is that there are reasons for the things we don't understand. Complaining without having all the facts makes us look as stupid as you often do.
