Parramatta Eels sign Josh Papalii for 2014

The thing I find strange is that if Paps did sign two weeks ago like how some are saying, why didn't parra announce it then? Why wait till now?

Maybe Shubert had to approve third party deals or something? Don't contracts have to be cleared by the NRL first? As others are saying though it won't be done and dusted until after round 13 and that's a long time for the Raiders to try and white ant this.

Strictly speaking that's not true. The EPL for example sees players traded with many years left on their contract, and while all parties have to agree, an unhappy player can usually force a clubs hand to sell, just as they do here. They do restrict trades during the season down to a small window, but it doesnt get rid of media speculation.

The NRL should try to stop tyhis happening.

omfg! this is ridiculous...so let me guess this straight, it's all perfectly fine for the NRL to screw our club over in the Folau deal and yet when we finally make a signing we have the club and their fans carrying on like complete bitches, the same thing happened with Sandow and Hoppa..but yet there are more local juniors and ex players playing at other clubs than what other clubs have...

There is every chance he stays true to his word and is playing for Parramatta in 2014. But quite clearly there is more to this story, the Raiders HQ havent given up hope and the idea that Parra put on the song and dance early in order to pressure him to honor the deal has merit.

There is also every chance, given under NRL rules we have last rights to retain him up until round 13, that we can convince him to stay with us and there is absolutely nothing you guys can do to stop that if thats was Papalii wants to do.

All im saying is pump the breaks a bit on this. It's far from a done deal.

Our players and juniors have been getting raped for years, and can't see it not happening in years to come.

The nrl should be trying to help clubs like ours more than anything.
