Yeah - and TRex was only getting $150k a year.

Good thing Fitzy chose to spend that money upgrading the deals of Tautai, Oake and Hauraki.
We would've been screwed if he'd spent all that cash on Williams instead.

If the Raiders can pony up the cash and keep Papali, then that's their right to do so I suppose. That's the rules as they stand, just because we had an idiot who didn't take advantage of them doesn't mean others should follow our poor lead....

T-Rex hadn't played a single 1st grade game when manly paid overs for him. papalii is proven at NRL level already

I wouldn't be surprised if he stayed in Canberra, couldn't blame him if we playing like busteds again this year.

What will change in 13 weeks? It's all a about the money. It's not like Canberra will suddenly come up with the extra money that they couldn't match unless they release other players which is never good for team morale. I wouldn't be to worried about him reneging on his deal.

However, the 21-year-old Kiwi forward said he was looking forward to the opportunity to play under Stuart.

"Heading to Parramatta next season is a new and exciting challenge, they are a club on the rise and I am looking forward to being a part of what Ricky Stuart and the team up there are doing," Papalii said.

"My first priority though is playing good footy for the Raiders this year and going out on a high."

No way he's not coming after allowing himself to be quoted like that. Good signing

Would you rather Papalii on $330k or TRex on $600k?

Have never got the t-Rex love - he is a myth , is very hard to stop but does not get involved enough for a 500k player - he is to lazy doesn't know how good he could be.

If papali kicks on then we have got him at a very decent price.

To be sure that raiders are unable to increase their offer before round 13 we should try to bid up Sam Williams value .

Can't they extend his contract before that?

if the could afford the money papalii was willing to accept to stay, there'd be nothing to talk about right now.

the fact furner snr's come out talking about exploiting the anti-tampering rule says that they don't envisage being anywhere near ballpark right now

PARRAMATTA chief executive Ken Edwards has slammed suggestions the club's star recruit Josh Papalii will turn his back on the Eels amid speculation that he signed with the club under duress. The young Raider put pen to paper with Parra on a three-year deal during the week but the Raiders have been trying to get him to change his mind. ''We are fully aware of suggestions that he signed under some kind of duress but that's totally wrong,'' Edwards said. ''Those kind of comments wouldn't be coming from the kid himself. There's no way that would happen and I can understand if the Raiders are upset because he is a very, very special talent. We did this by the book, to the letter of the law, and then some. I can tell you how far we went to make sure he was comfortable even after he agreed to our terms. Ricky [Stuart] told him to go back to the Raiders one more time to see if they could match our offer and keep him but they didn't get anywhere near it. To say he signed under duress is almost laughable. His mum was there when he did the deal and, like him, she was delighted that he signed to come to us.'' This column understands that Papalii and his management actually approached the Eels to see if they were interested in signing the 20-year-old forward. ''What I want our fans to know is that Josh will be at Parramatta and we are delighted to have him join the club,'' Edwards said. ''It's an indication that the club is moving in the right direction that a player of his ability and obvious potential wanted to sign up with us.'' Several attempts were made to contact Raiders boss Don Furner but he did not respond.

Canberra will try to change his mind according to the Canberra times. They are organising 3rd party sponsors to match Parra's deal. They seem awfully confident.

Well the Raiders supporters are dead set convinced that they will be keeping him. If you read their forum they are not too worried about it. Which ever was it goes, the very idea that someone can sign a contract and then back out of it has to be addressed. If he does back out of the contract , I support legal action against the player.
