Raider69 we went through the same situation with T-Rex and we hung on in the hope he would stay, it never happened was never going to. You're all in denial and I understand why, because u lost a massive player. Sooner you get over it the better

What I've been told by people who would know, Eels know Papalii has had 2nd thoughts and wants to stay at Raiders. Issuing release designed to pressure him into honouring agreement with eels. He doesn't want to go. #nrl

There is every chance he stays true to his word and is playing for Parramatta in 2014. But quite clearly there is more to this story, the Raiders HQ havent given up hope and the idea that Parra put on the song and dance early in order to pressure him to honor the deal has merit.

There is also every chance, given under NRL rules we have last rights to retain him up until round 13, that we can convince him to stay with us and there is absolutely nothing you guys can do to stop that if thats was Papalii wants to do.

All im saying is pump the breaks a bit on this. It's far from a done deal.

Fair call. I agree that it would not seem straightforward that he will be an eel in 2014. Thanks for the heads up.

omfg! this is ridiculous...so let me guess this straight, it's all perfectly fine for the NRL to screw our club over in the Folau deal and yet when we finally make a signing we have the club and their fans carrying on like complete bitches, the same thing happened with Sandow and Hoppa..but yet there are more local juniors and ex players playing at other clubs than what other clubs have...

i think it's time the NRL stopped this stupid rule where they won't register a contract til june sometime. And Some signs a document and agrees to something then honor it. Fair dinkum the Crow use to never a contract and just had a hand shake agreement with the club his whole career. Who do we blame? Player managers or Gen Y?

Seriously we finally make a signing and then all we hear is it might not happen, the club made the official announcement last night I'm happy to take that as a sign that he will be an eel for 2014, unlucky Raider fans.

Yeah - and TRex was only getting $150k a year.

Good thing Fitzy chose to spend that money upgrading the deals of Tautai, Oake and Hauraki.
We would've been screwed if he'd spent all that cash on Williams instead.

If the Raiders can pony up the cash and keep Papali, then that's their right to do so I suppose. That's the rules as they stand, just because we had an idiot who didn't take advantage of them doesn't mean others should follow our poor lead....

That's not true, you have until round 13 to match the offer, any club with 330k still floating around by then is on struggle street...and yes we should know about that
