Well the Raiders supporters are dead set convinced that they will be keeping him. If you read their forum they are not too worried about it. Which ever was it goes, the very idea that someone can sign a contract and then back out of it has to be addressed. If he does back out of the contract , I support legal action against the player.

If my grandmother had a a c**k she would be my grandfather.

Paps should be coming out publicly and say once and for all what he wants to do. If he stays quiet that means he's listened to The Raiders and he's as good as gone IMO.

Just wished we had fought hard enough for Trex when he was around. Dick nose Fitzgerald killed that.

Raiders aim to keep Papalii

CANBERRA Raiders and Parramatta are locked in the first contract tug-of-war of the new season, with Josh Papalii contemplating pulling out of a three-year deal with the Eels.

The Eels announced Papalii as a prize signing last Friday, but The Sunday Telegraph has learned the Raiders are lobbying hard to convince him to renege and remain at the club.
Parramatta have already lodged Papalii's contract with the NRL, but as his existing club, the Raiders have until round 13 to convince him to perform a back-flip.
In a signal of the impeding fight between the Eels and Raiders, Canberra chairman John McIntyre told The Sunday Telegraph: "It's very disappointing when you develop players and this sort of things happens, but it may not be done and dusted yet. I'll leave it at that. It's in the hands of our club management."
The concern for Eels CEO Ken Edwards and coach Ricky Stuart will be Papalii's track-record when it comes to performing back-flips, having turned his back on the Kiwis to commit to Queensland.

"There's a big difference between a letter of intent and a long-form contact," Edwards said. "This has been something that we've been working towards for a number of months.
"We'd expect Canberra to be fighting hard to try to keep Josh, he's an outstanding young talent.
"But we're completely comfortable with the way the negotiations were conducted. Josh has told us he's extremely excited about coming to Parramatta and we expect him to honour the deal."
Papalii's agent Col Davis approached the Eels last year to gauge interest in the boom rookie.
After months of negotiations, Papalii signed the Eels contract with his mother sitting alongside him after the Raiders were unable to compete with the $1 million offer.

This shits me! Any club signs a player and ban its done no questions asked. We sign one and its either no his value is higher than that or the other club whinges and we get f**ked over! He signed a bloody contract canberra get the f**k over it. Our club isn't saying much on the matter hitch is a good sign we have a qoute from josh saying he's excited to come but all the articles about him staying have nothing coming from him it's all the Canberra media and raiders who are putting this undue pressure on the kid. If this keeps up I'd say we will be pretty certain to get him. Way to much pressure on the young bloke.

Lol at McIntyre saying its disappointing to develop players and this happens (they leave) we have f**king seen that for years John. This club has many juniors playing across the NRL. Cry me a river. It honk Papalii will come. They seem desperate more than confident. Josh has to come out and squash this quick or else canberra will continue to play these mind games through the media

Get the feeling that if Canberra can come close with the $$ then he could have a change of heart....

I know there have been quotes from josh stating he wants to come to the eels, but could it be possible this is just a ploy by his manger to get extra $$$ from the raiders?

Sign the contract early in the season, and give his current club 3 months to find the extra $$. This way, there is a heap of pressure on the existing club.

Hopefully he genuinely wants to come to Sydney, and quashes any attempt in him staying.

What happens if in fact round 12 he has a change of heart and stays. We don't pursue other back rowers in the mean time, assuming he'll be an eel in '14.

Shit system that needs rectifying.

I am becoming less and less confident about our chances. If he doesn't come then so be it.

The NRL really need to change the rules around registering player contracts. It is not in anyone's interests to have these sorts of battles going on for half a season.

Does that mean we can continue to pursue Tamou and Scott then?

It's a shit system.
But I'd do the same thing. Lock in a contract with a rival club early as insurance, could get injured etc. Then I could just break the agreement if my club came up with a decent offer.

Stupid system.

No - but if someone were to make Hayne a massive offer then we would be able to respond.

Hypothetical for you Nath. If Hayne was courted by another club and signed a contract during this offseason but then had a change of mind would you support Parramatta doing what Canberra are doing with Papali?

I think I know the answer.

It's unfortunate but if whats being reported is accurate then it wouldn't be the first time a bonehead footballer has signed something without thinking and then decided they want to do something else.

I'll just wait for this to play out now. I don't trust anything I am reading.

I don't think we would let hayne sign with anyone else in the first place! Canberra f**ked up plain and simple.

But if that happened then yes I'd condone parra for doing what canberra are doing. It's just f**king shit that our club finally sign someone the right way and we are still getting f**ked over!

Papali is only on 100k this year, if true what a f**k up on their part. They payed money for that Ranga Gumby Edwards who is probably on double that. They only have themselves to blame and claiming Parra payed massive overs is just their way of trying to save some face.Hopefully he comes out tomorrow and puts this to bed.

How can he when Canberra made off limits to the media. There's no quotes other than the kid talking up going to Parra. Won't get nervous until some from his saying otherwise.
