we don't know this for sure, gallop has publicly stated in the past that the confusion on the rule is with agents and club administrators not knowing how the rule operates.

it would be a big assumption imo that an agent has covered his client correctly for this given gallop's comments in the past.

I think you're making a big assumption that this isn't in the contract ... give the claims the other day that only "some" managers chose to remove it ... which suggests it's part of a standard contract that is mostly used

plus I find it hard to believe all the speculation wouldn't have been poo-pooed by now (by parra) if there was specifically no clause in the contract about this

i think people need to stop looking at this with blue and gold coloured glasses

i could be wrong, and so could you. you used the word apparently yourself. none of us really know.

i can't be wearing "blue and gold coloured glasses" though when i'm stating that WE SHOULD NOT proceed with waiting till round 13 if the clause is in fact written in.

it's not worth the risk imo.

i don't claim to know all about it

the question is .... can we "not proceed with waiting" .... we have some vague idea that there is some sort of clauses about the player backing out - but is there anything for the club to back out?

maybe we just have to bloody wait???

My personal feeling is Parra must be comfortable in their position as they have not needed to enter into the discussion, making me think they feel they have nothing to worry about...?

Why would we lock ourselves into a contract that the player can back out of but we can't? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
I guess we just have to trust this guy won't f**k us over.

in the nathan smith precendence, canberra did go to gallop seeking this right for clubs after they got burnt, but it was knocked on the head by gallop.

IF the clause is in there as you believe, then we have a massive risk imo that only gets worse the longer it drags on

Anybody here remember the Raiders - Wiki- Warriors saga in the 90s?

Though not an apples to appels comparison, the Raiders do have form on the board in this area.

Yeah, and agents had absolutely no idea that they weren't allowed to get players to sign two contracts and only register one with the NRL

i'd still love to know what the players were declaring to the ATO

dirty f**kers didn't get what they really deserved, instead they got rewarded with a premiership the next season, makes me so angry

What they were payed - which is why the ATO had no issues. Guess its a shame the NRL can not see their tax statements

As long as they paid tax on their taxable earnings, not really sure ATO care where it comes from........

. MESSY BUSINESS

WE'RE hearing the Josh Papalii contract saga is getting uglier, although it did not stop Canberra chief executive Don Furner from playing in the charity golf day Parramatta coach Ricky Stuart holds in the nation's capital to raise funds for autism.

Furner and Stuart went to school together, and we're told this present imbroglio is considered as nothing deeper than "business" between them. Even if it's getting dirty. We would be stunned if the boom back-rower doesn't stay.

The round 13 deadline that allows players to effectively renege on the deal they have done was brought in because the old anti-tampering deadline was so flawed.

"It gives clubs a last chance to keep their player," NRL special projects manager Shane Mattiske told us.

It is very simple. If Papalii didn't want to play with the Eels, why did he sign a contract to do so?
