There are a few female posters on this site that will vouch for the 'not very nice guy' label And they have first hand experience.

Spiderdan this is my first post on this forum. I question whether you have ever personally spoken to Brett. I have to wonder if you are the type of person that believes everything you read in the media and make your assumptions based on that.

I have to question why someone would simply join this forum to comment on Spider's opinion unless they were friends or family of Brett Kenny.

I guess it is a moot point now as Roberts will most likely be the 5/8th next year.

My point in making Hayne a 6 is that basically he will control the team almost 4 out of the 6 plays. (Does not include the rucking out from our end of the field).

It will be what he is accountable for. To setup plays for the eels.

I don't think that he performs his fullback duties 100% because he is playing a 2nd five eighth role and hence, we lose the supporting fullback and strong kick returns.

At 1, he is not 100% accountable for playmaking as the 6 & 7 must take some responsibility. Hence, Hayne can take a back seat if he wants to.

At 6, he would be fully accountable for playmaking and since he is our best playmaker, he should perform most of the playmaking.

All that talk about, what about the extra defense, well, he'll get use to it.

It doesn't stop Lockyer, Thurston or Soward does it?

Lastly, I for one believe that Hayne is in good form. However, I reckon he could be better especially at 6 and the team would have better direction as Hayne would be in charge of the attack.

tbh after the cowboys game it was obvious that Hayne has now moved to the level where he can ball play. He is no longer a hit and miss, one trick pony fullback. What Hayne did to tonga was almost career killer stuff, he exposed him and his future is without doubt in the 6 but he still has a long way to go before he is a 5-8.

Hayne short kicking game at best is limited, he doesn't even attempt any in games. The second problem becomes the #1, who plays there? If someone like Gardner came back I think a 1. Gardner 6. Hayne >> 1. Hayne 6.Roberts but for now we have no real other option for the #1. Barba may be an option but the kid is a few seasons away at least.

I think if Ricky though Hayne was a 5-8 then he should have played him there, his defense is more then up to it considering he played alot of centre, wing and 5-8 and they guy would actually be one of the better defensive 5-8. Hayne is probably the best player NSW has, at least the best back and he should have been there somewhere tbh.

especially throwing dugan in cold it would have been better to have him with jarryd to show him the ropes start with dugan on the wing and jarryd at fullback then swap them around when dugan gets the hang of things

I think Dugan is a special player and will have no problems controlling origin, I just worry personally about his form. I understand where Ricky is coming from picking Dugan but on that thinking he should have picked Mullen and Farah as well and probably Hayne at 5-8.

1. Dugan, 6.Hayne, 7.Mullen, 9. Farah are better in attack and defense then Dugan, Soward, Pearce and Ennis. There is no x-factor in that. Soward is a good player but he is not electric rather very passive and organized and the same could be said with Pearce while ennis is simply a grub.

I would love Gardner back. It would give Hayne another option with a short pass to Gardner hovering around or a chip ahead for Gardner to chase. But alas.

He is a long way off from being a full 5/8th in the terms of consistently doing the play making, building pressure, rather than going for one off big plays. However, since this year is a right off, he could've used this year for experience.

The signing of Roberts throws a spanner in the works.

I don't know how hayne will be ready in 2 years if he has no further experiences at 6.

The other thing about the cowboys game is that what happened to Hayne taking a back seat and letting our 6 and 7 run the show?

Anyway, if Mortz is a 14 next year, he should really play some hoooker when Casey comes off and if MK is not fit yet.

You make a very valid point, if Hayne doesn't play 5-8 then he wont improve as a 5-8 but I'm more concerned with the fullback role. Until we have a fullback to replace Hayne then there is no other option and Rogers at 5-8 is the best choice, if Gardner comes back I would probably shift Hayne to 5-8 even with the signing of Rogers.

In 2 years even if Hayne doesn't play 5-8 you would think he would be smarter, read the game better and understand the role instead of going for the hail Mary play. There is no problem getting Hayne to train his 5-8 skills it will only add to the team. Australia used to play with Lockyer, Fittler and Johns in the backline and Lockyer was able the play a different role when required which most NRL players can do. The Roosters also did it with Carney, Pearce and Anasta so its not a new idea.

I would think that maybe Barba could look at a few games off the bench nest year and in 2013 and then he may be able to step up to the fullback role and Hayne to 5-8. Either way Inglis was playing 5-8 for the storm and played on the wing for SOO, Falou was the same... you make certain exceptions for players like them and Ricky has made a very bad mistake IMO.

I totally agree that Ricky has made a mistake.

I just think QLD will target Soward. In attack, they will pressure him. And they'll run big men at him in defense.

Soward will drop his bundle and NSW will have no other X-factor or option besides Pearce.

If Hayne couldn't get the 1, he definitely should've got a wing spot.

How hard is it to coach Hayne to perform as a winger?

He's done it before in SOO.

Dugan is overated at this stage. Gordon is a better fullback-Gardner is just as good.
Its funny when a guy like dugans does somthing good it willl get replayed 10x but a guy like mckinon could do the same and the commentators dont say a word.
Hayne gets the same thing-Makes half a break and they go crazy!!!
Hayne thou is on another level-Dugan i dont get yet...

Actually, I think you'll find Ricky and David aren't such great pals..Ricky has been given the side he wants. He will have to live or die with it...

What happened the last time Ricky had a rep side he wanted? 2008 World Cup I believe it was but he only lost that because of Ashley Klein

Then the last time he got an NRL team he wanted (Corey Hughes or De Gois) he took them on a wonderful streak  only we happened to interrupt his quest for a league record.

We could even look at his wonderful use of his interchange bench in 2003 and 2004 Grand Finals, or how once Hoss and Cleary had departed he made how many finals appearances with the tri colours?

Ricky through his relationships with the Bourbon Becky and Rothfield has remained free from all criticism of all of this and you can bet if NSW hold QLD to a respectable score line or jag a win those gimps at News will be claiming him as the second coming. I can assure you he is a false prophet.

Yeah, but it was funnier the week after the World Cup Final, where Bourbon Beccy and Rothfield (and Paul Kent) were begging, pleading, kicking and screaming in the paper for Ricky not to get sacked as Australian coach.

Good times.

I am NO FAN of Ricky as a coach. BUT he has been given the team he wanted so he can have no complaints..I would have selected a different team, that's for sure...
Hayne would DEFINITELY been in my team, as would Josh Dugan...
In SOO, I go for Queensland, and I intend to be at the third game at Suncorp later this year. Billy Harrigan and Gorden Tallis are guests at the SOO luncheon at Souths Logan Leagues Club pre match....(with Gary Belcher MC)
We had Bill Harrigan down here for Pie in Sky this year..four days and he was fantastic..what a great ambassador for Rugby League...NOTHING was too much trouble for him...

Still dropping names, eh pete?

Suity

No. I had a great time with Bill Harrigan during the four days he was in town earlier this year.
As I said he is a great bloke - and nothing was too much trouble for him?
How is that name dropping? He is just an ordinary bloke like you and me...nothing to 'name drop' (as you put it) about...

Your time spent with Bill Harrigan reminds me of the time I spent with a good friend of mine a couple of years ago. Good times. Tiger sure did know a lot of women. My friend Warren Beatty reckons he 'knows' more though
