Parramatta Leagues Club administrator hopes to have board in place by next NRL season
Posted July 20, 2016 20:13:42

The Parramatta Leagues Club administrator says he is planning a "clean slate" for the club's new board and hopes to have it in place before the beginning of the next NRL season.

Max Donnelly spent his first day as administrator of the club today after the former board was sacked by the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority due to governance problems on Tuesday.

The decision to remove the club board effectively removed the Parramatta Eels board as well, as they share seven of the same directors.

Last month, five Eels officials were deregistered and the club was docked 12 competition points and fined $1 million by the NRL for salary cap breaches.

Today, Mr Donnelly said a separation of the two boards was on his agenda.

"It is my role to ensure all stakeholders of the leagues club have full confidence in the club's governance and the management of ongoing operations," he said.

"It is clear to all this is currently not the case here with the Eels.

"This restoration of confidence in the club will necessitate a period of review, changes, improvements and very likely a rebuilding and restructure in the way this club is governed."

Earlier this week the leagues clubs chairman, Steve Sharp, wrote to the New South Wales Government asking it to appoint a temporary administrator.

Mr Donnelly said he hoped changes would be implemented, including the appointment of a new board, before next season.

When asked whether the five deregistered Eels officials would have anything to do with the club in the future, Mr Donnelly responded: "the logic to me is a clean slate's the way to go".

Link between Leagues Club and football club 'source of issues'

Mr Donnelly said the football club's operations were of "significant importance" to the Leagues Club, despite being separate entities.

"Obviously, the leagues club funds the football club and I think that's where the issues are," he said.

"The most common problem is that there was the same members on the board of both clubs, and therefore there's no independence."

Mr Donnelly said he would conduct a "thorough review" of all entities relating to the leagues club and the Parramatta Eels, including the governance structures of the Parramatta NRL club.

"It is my intention to remain as open, honest, and transparent as possible in my role as administrator," he said.

"When I have answers, you will get them."

Donnelly to 'investigate merits' of sanctions appeal

Mr Donnelly said he would meet lawyers for the club on Thursday to understand "the legal reasoning" behind the club appealing against recent sanctions, including a $1 million fine and point deductions.

"I need to investigate the merits of the appeal and form a view," he said.

"I don't want to fund something unless I'm comfortable it should be funded."

Mr Donnelly said he could stop the current submission to appeal should he deem it necessary.

So Jake is now all upset about Bevvy.

The only Bevvy that he has encountered of late is some methlyated spirits and orange cordial after he worked out he'd smashed the last of his Carton of Hammer n' Tongs.

Another great bit of Toddles PR ...

We have no intention of telling them how to run their club.

We will just push for an administrator with little idea of how to run a nrl club, then have him let us decide everything nrl related

In terms of having an idea of how to run an NRL club (or any organisation) he's not exactly at a disadvantage relative to any of his recent predecessors. He'll hire any specialists he needs.

Paul Kent sais last night that new directors must bring skills, versatility and contacts to the club. He also said that he/she must not be a fan or past player.

Well researched dickhead. So we need to find a director who has been a member for at least 3 years but isn't a fan.

I've asked Fox a couple of times recently on Twitter why we have journalists stinking up sports programs when they add no value.

This is the reason why I ask them and will now continue just to annoy them. Kent and Hooper are a waste of space and add absolutely nothing but uneducated opinions on whatever topic they are talking about.

Why do any people from any club talk to these people????

Cos they are like little ass kissing puppies when they are actually in the presence of players/coaches/etc who they want interviews with

You've seen em on those shows - they crap on with all the big talk, but as soon as a player is infront of them they are like scared little mutes and back away from anything controversial

the players try and avoid reading the normal dribble they put out so dont realise all the shit they sprout, though they probably have an idea

Oh yeah they are very sad, and seeing them that way with players around them only makes it worse!

When Mad Max separates the PNRL board from the PLC there will be opportunity to get in some directors who are not members of the leagues club.

Is there no constitutional thing stopping the separation?

Or is the constitution simply dead now we are in administration?

Did we ever get to vote when they conjured up the PNRL Board, taking control of NRL matters away from the old District Footy Club?

This is what I was thinking.

I wonder how they'll handle the NRL board elections once the boards are separated? Eels members vote I guess? Like it was supposed to be before?
