No way this place will be popular? Really? Whoever said that?
It will smash the old stuck in the 1950's dump Fish Markets.

Day 1.
A Monday.

Security forming queues because the place was already full.

Yeh, I get that there is always the first day fascination. The Metro openings have been the same.
However, once people realise how great this infrastructure is, the numbers will continue to rise. Already, the Sydney Metro is the 2nd busiest railway line in Sydney and will soon be the first when the Bankstown extension opens.
It's incredible that a previous govt realised that the existing Fish Markets were so sub-par and had so much more potential to become a massive tourism attraction for this city. Well, they delivered.
It's a shame that nothing more is planned, and only the current projects by the previous govt will be completed.
That's State Labor and their infrastructure policies.
They have no f**king idea.

It's quite obvious that the Asian community think it's a winner.

I would be surprised if the numbers continue to rise from the first day numbers... surely you would be surprised if that were the case too?

Lol, it's called responsible budgeting and economic management. Are you a traditional fan of governments (any stripe) delivering continuous and unsustainable deficits?

If NSW Labor thinks being fiscally responsible is providing road toll cash-back schemes costing billions (and only benefiting the private motorway owners), they have lost the plot.
All it does is encourage more road use, adding to greenhouse gases and encouraging less use of the public transport system.
An absolutely brain-dead policy.
Those billions could be better spent on better public transport. But NO.

This guy isn't the most exciting YT vlogger, but he does give a great insight and view into the new Fish Market.
It is unbelievable. And as many of you may not already know, it is more than just a fish market.

However, if I have any criticism of this new build and the previous Govt after watching this vid, (and this might sound strange) it is that it just isn't big enough.
It will be insanely popular as not only a fish market, but a foodie destination and a massive tourist attraction.

It's something we can all enjoy you negative Nelly. They'd piss the money up either way.

It supposedly has twice the retail area size than the old markets so I don't know what to make of this until I visit it. Having said that, if it's too small I personally won't have to worry about it because I won't be around for that to be an issue.

The Fish Markets has a woke roof.

Love it. A great explanation of the complexity of complicated builds like this.
I think it was another Danish architect :) that designed a previous complex build. It also cost a lot more than anticipated but has since become an iconic building and world famous.

I love the fact that Sydney goes out on a limb, takes risks, and builds amazing infrastructure.
3 incredible icons in 90 years that has put the city on the world tourism map.
Of course, the beaches and harbour also help.

She talks about using this technology on other buildings and the fact that solar doesn't have to be ugly, while completely ignoring the fact of the cost and time overrun.

This was designed on the go, and it sounds like the NSW govt paid for all the research instead of just the capital cost.

No wonder there were delays. All of that should have been sorted prior to the build.

The 5% figure is respectable, given the building’s very high energy load (refrigeration, ice machines, HVAC, lighting, food service). It’s not just a warehouse with lighting.

5% energy savings hey. Amazing jobs guy.
Seriously thats pathetic. I would of been able to design it to atleast save 38-42%
Morons

All lighting would have been LEDs for compliance. What else would you suggest that could be improved ?

One thing that she didn't mention was the efficiency of the Solar Panels, and although they may look good, when you prioritise looks over efficiency, the efficiency normally drops quite a lot.

I've read papers where solar PV technology was built into glass bricks, so if you build out of them, the whole structure is generating power for you, but at less than 5% efficiency. Nowadays, some are over 40% eficient, which made them (the glass bricks) unfeasible and a waste of money, and they never took off.

If these panels were efficient, they would be plastering this fact all over the headlines.

In order to achieve the govt grants for solar PV installations, you have to be able to certify the min efficiency based on the rules, and to achieve that, one of the most important criteria is the angle at which they are mounted and the orientation (being mostly north and west or a combination of both). These small "pyramids" face all directions, and the mounting angles are determined by the structure's design, and efficiency doesn't seem to be prioritised.

I doubt they are contributing very much at all and seem to be no more than a PR exercise. I would like to see the data, though.
