Reward the seat that changed hands, the areas that stayed with the loser party which lost power can wait a little longer...

it really should have nothing to do with that, it's all about who is in need

politics should play no part

it's unfortunate, however, that it does, it was one of ScoMo's fav tricks

True, and was probably a trick long before Scotty from Marketing as well. He just took it next level.

This thread is about infrastructure.
Keep the politics out of it ffs.
Twiz, you're a mod.
You should know better than to feed the troll that has a history to derail everything with politics.

Heworth Tweaks Long-Awaited Balmain Leagues Site Plans

undefined

Architecture practice Scott Carver has unveiled the latest designs that aim for an “authentic local village experience” at the former Balmain Leagues Club redevelopment.
The designs will have the mixed-use Rozelle precinct centre around a new village square.
At the same time, developer Heworth Property Group has lodged amendments to its approved application with the Inner West Council.
The changes will cut the number of apartments from 167 to 147 and change the apartment mix, increasing the number of two and three-bedroom apartments.

The Rozelle Village development will be home to a new Wests Ashfield Leagues Club.

Metro West article and update.

1681192489219.png
Sydney’s Metro West mega rail project connecting the CBD to Parramatta will cost more than $25 billion, the new state government has revealed, after the price tag was kept secret by the former Coalition government.

“Our predecessors were never upfront about the true cost of Sydney Metro West, and we are now seeking answers about this project,” he [a government spokesman] said.

“Sydney Metro West needs to be delivered in a cost-effective way. Taxpayers should have confidence they are getting the best value for money. ”

Since taking office the Minns Labor government has sought briefings on Sydney Metro West and other major infrastructure projects as a matter of priority.

Again, STATE Labor preparing to cancel projects. Go figure? They have a history of this. How many times did they promise Parramatta - Chatswood, only to cancel it? And only build Epping - Chatswood which was a pathetic half arsed project that really should have linked 3 major residential and commercial precincts in western Sydney.

A
I post below a very wise post from another forum.
It's true. This price tag is nothing new. Yet another drama queen article from the Herald.
It is Labor preparing to cut infrastructure spending. What a surprise.

"
We were already talking about a $27B pricetag on this very forum two years ago. True to any new government's form this is more about an opportunity for a political beat up to trash the legacy of the previous government and prepare us for the cancellations on many more planned infrastructure projects. Obviously not this one though as contracts are signed and work has progressed - provided that they stick to the promise of not cancelling existing contracts. Thank f**k for that.

The budget comes out in June. You can guarantee that we will be drip fed these horror budget stories of cost blowouts on everything.

Yesterday it was the Western Harbour Tunnel with a "shock extra 1.5 billion cost blow out".
Today its the Sydney Metro West
Anyone care to take a bet on what the next one will be? Parramatta Powerhouse? Parramatta Lightrail? Sydney Metro St Marys to WSI? Sydney Metro SW stage 1? M12? M6? There's certainly a lot to choose from so we could be here for a while.

Truth is construction cost blowouts are not just a NSW government issue they are an issue across the board regardless of the sector, whether its private or public funded and whether its residential, commercial, industrial or anything else. They are being felt in every state and at a federal level and across many western nations - especially Anglophone nations. Its called inflation and that's why interest rates have been rising. That's why property companies are hitting the wall and going under at an increased rate this year.

But when the NSW budget is released we will only get the story that this is all because of the largesse of the last government - very politically convenient. The NSW budget cant afford all this infrastructure as well as deliver on promises to give public servants a 10% annual pay rise plus sign on bonus with zero productivity gains. So something has to give and its not the promises that the ALP went to the election with. If its not about health, education or removing the wages cap and it hasn't been baked in with an ironclad contract then its all on the table for slashing."

Sums it up and typical state Labor.

Gee, for a thread that's supposed to not be taken into the political... that's quite the political polemic - possibly as long as the linked Herald article itself

May I ask - who first started the political post?
Yes, this is an infrastructure thread.
Why did you post the political post in the first place?
Off topic much?

It was a media article on a previously discussed infrastructure project.

I didn't post my own political opinion in this thread, as you'd previously requested... however it seems it's ok for you to post your political opinion here without any published linked content?

Are we one of the only NRL clubs now without a COE?
Well our cash is secured and the the dozers are dozering.

The Dragons seem to be in the same position as us.

Bulldogs haven’t started.

The Dolphins no, but fair enough really.

The Sharkies on the otherhand …

Future landmark bridge inches towards completion

By
Ellie Busby - April 14, 2023

A future landmark over the Parramatta River is a step closer to completion, after the Alfred Street Bridge arch was lifted into place yesterday.

It marks a major milestone for Australia’s first true diagonal arch bridge and new pedestrian and cyclist link located over the Parramatta River between James Ruse Drive and Gasworks Bridge.

The 4.5-metre-wide, 200-metre-long active transport link plans to provide the city’s growing population with a convenient, safe and scenic walking and cycling link over the river, directly to the Parramatta Light Rail.

“Alfred Street Bridge will be a great new landmark that will benefit so many people as they travel through Parramatta,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Donna Davis said.

“Once complete, this bridge will make it safer and faster for our growing community to move in and out of our Parramatta CBD.

“The bridge acts as a river gateway to our city, creating more active transport links. We live in a beautiful city and we want to make it easier for people to walk, run, cycle, skate or wheel across the LGA and connect to public transport.”

The $19 million project, co-funded by Council and the NSW Government, is in its final stages of construction, with the bridge ramps and decks installed in late March.

The bridge has been a complex project with more than 30 workers using 280 tonnes of BlueScope steel to fabricate the deck and arch in western Sydney.

The deck and arch were delivered to site in separate pieces using oversized trucks. The arch itself is 80-metres long and 30-metres high and was assembled and welded on site before being lifted into position using a 750-tonne crane.

The final piece of the puzzle will be positioning the steel cables that support the deck from the arch. The cables have been manufactured in Italy and a specialist team have flown in to oversee the installation.

Long-time Parramatta resident, Greg Temme, has lived in the area since 1985. He has been watching the bridge come to life from his apartment window. He said the Alfred Street Bridge will cut down his travel times by up to 20 minutes.

“We’re really looking forward to the opening of the Alfred Street Bridge. It will be a life-changing addition for us, it’s going to make it so much quicker to visit the town centre and the local shops,” he said.

“We’ll be able to cross the bridge and connect to the future Parramatta Light Rail stop at Tramway Avenue where we can travel straight to Western Sydney University, Westmead Hospital, Eat Street and Parramatta CBD.”

Alfred Street Bridge is expected to open mid-2023. Community consultation will take place after the formal opening to name the bridge, with Council’s recommendations to be submitted to the Geographical Names Board of NSW for formal exhibition and determination.

So just weeks after a new govt have taken control of NSW, Metro trains will start testing from Chatswood to Sydenham under Sydney Harbour and with 4 new stations in the city. Amazing infrastructure, which when the Sydenham - Bankstown line extension is converted, will free up further services from other conflated ST lines, as it will clear lines in the City Circle as the Bankstown services won't ever clog it up.
Who would have thought that since Bradfield, NSW could have had a govt that gave this city infrastructure it needed after decades of neglect.

But nope. The Libs were hopeless. I get that.

Yet, the new transport minister who has no f**king idea is now an expert apparently.

"
New Transport Minister Jo Haylen said it was a historic first step to have a train travel under the harbour and, more importantly, it would improve the broader rail network once the main section of the metro rail line was ready to open to passengers next year.

“I want to make sure that the Sydney Metro project delivers genuine improvements to transport services like this for passengers and for taxpayers,” she said."

4 weeks into the job and already taking credit for a project she has no f**king idea about that has been in planning and construction for years. She has no f**king clue and has made that clear in her first few weeks in charge.
God help NSW infrastructure moving forward with this clown in charge.
No doubt, she'll be there at the ribbon cutting next year when it opens, after having done f**k all.

Well thank f**k Labor got in and delivered this. What would we do without them?

I drove through the M4 to M8 tunnel earlier this evening. 35 mins from Winsto to the Domestic Terminal. M2/ED is great except when I hit the ED in peak hour but this was a nice change. Thanks ALP again I am sure.

WestConnex and M4 - M8 tunnels are an incredible bit of infrastructure and actually have been built with width and plenty of lanes. The M6 tunnel connection Stage 1 will be another amazing addition/connection. When the Rozelle Interchange opens it will be a game changer for the city, as will the Western Harbor Tunnel.
I'm so glad that these projects are underway to a point where this tight arse govt cannot cancel the contracts.

None of this stuff would have ever been built under a NSW Labor Govt. They couldn't even organise to build a rail line between Parra - Epping after promising it three times last time when they were in power for 16 years. They reneged each time and that's when they lost me.
As for future metros - the most efficient and modern rail we can build, nope, that ain't happening because it doesn't have driver's and guards ffs.
