I think like Minns, Haylen will also ignore these minor and belated RTBU shenanigans, and push through with their plans and current timeframes regardless.

I wouldn't be jumping at shadows or getting my knickers all twisted at every single comment or action a union takes... seems like they're living rent free in the brains of some - but not those in government!

You'd hope that they will. I do as well.

But who is to say that the RTBU won't coerce the ETU to ban electrical contractors performing the electrical shutdown of the catenary works for example?
In 2022, during the "Year of the Strikes", pre-planned weekend shutdowns of the Bankstown Line for works for this metro conversion were continually cancelled at the last minute by the ETU, after months of planning for these works. These strikes have now contributed to the time delays for this line conversion, and now, they are trying to do the same.
The union(s) are just blackmailing the current Govt for obscene pay rise claims, and they don't give a shite about commuters and the NSW Govt budget which we taxpayers fund.

You don't need to make snide remarks to reinforce any opinion you may have.
Instead, try and discuss this rationally.

Who would have ever thought that a modern metro system would have commuters wanting to use it? Even better, it is reaching such demand that the govt is already needing to increase services.
1 million passengers every 5 days on one single automated line with no drivers or guards, yet a shite load of customer service staff on every single service and at every station.
I believe we in Sydney are now entering the 21st century, or at least catching up with other modern rail systems around the rest of the globe.
It's about f**king time.
It's amusing, although a plus, that this news item showed that Jo is so positive about the Bankstown T3 conversion. It certainly wasn't her position while in opposition just a few years ago, yet it shows that even the most ardent anti metro opponents can be converted to a system that isn't a tangle of lines that can collapse at will during any drama and be beholden to unions at their whim when they choose.

I have to say, I'm impressed that the Labor Govt has progressed with the current projects and have jumped on board.
Yes, they have delayed Sydney Metro West, which will add costs, but at least it will be built.

Thank goodness that Gladys stood her ground and had vision beyond anyone since Bradfield.
She was the one that insisted and converted this system from slow old double deckers to fast metro and instigated this rail generational change.

Oh dear...I think you'll find that 2022 was under a previous government, that had absolutely no clue about how - let alone structures in place - to handle unions.
Instead, try and discuss this rationally.
Agree. I'm glad we've got a better government at the helm now, and so there really is no need to have irrational worries about past history or whenever a union rep speaks. Let the ALP adults handle it all, and enjoy watching the shutdown/transfer proceed as planned.

Haha! A guard holding a train up for passengers running for it is what stuffs up timetables. 20th century stuff.

These trains don't wait for passengers. They are automated. They don't have timetables.
If you miss one, you always know that there will be another arriving shortly. The longest wait will be 10 mins, and the shortest will be 4 minutes at the moment. The 4-minute headways currently run throughout both am and pm peak hours. It's 7 minutes outside that during the day and 10 mins in the off-peak
This system can run at 2-minute or even 90 second intervals if required. There is never any need for any commuter to run for a metro train.
Also, the doors are pressure sensitive, so if some idiot runs for a train and gets stuck in a closing door, they will re-open, release the clown, and then close again.
This technology is just something Sydneysiders need to get used to.
Us Hills District residents have had the Tallawong - Chatswood section for 5 years now. Everyone knows how it works.
When the Chatswood - Sydenham section opened 3 weeks ago, the trains were holding at the new stations for 90 seconds, so commuters who had never used it before could understand how it works as an automated system.
3 weeks later, (last Sunday in fact) I was on it. I timed a few stops. They have now reduced that "doors open" time to between 26 and 40 seconds. Generally, the doors are open for around 30 seconds.
The best thing about this system is that the scheduling of headways can be changed at the push of a few buttons at the control centre. For instance, tomorrow, the Sydney Marathon is on, so, instead of running 10 minutes schedules as per Sunday's normal programming, they are running every 5 minutes in the hours leading up to the start of the race.
It really is that simple.

And just in case people from outside of Sydney haven’t seen this there are two sets of doors you have to get through to get on the train. The first set of doors is on the platform edge and the next set of doors is on the train itself.

So most people are going to get caught in the station side doors and not the train side doors

There are heaps of youtube videos that show this.
Here is one video for Twiz's benefit.
Victoria Cross in North Sydney. One of the top 3 most impressive stations on the city section. It is f**king huge and takes 3 escalators down from street level, so it is also very deep.
At roughly from the 9.25 min mark to 10.30, it shows a train arriving and departing.
What is also apparent is two things.
1. The gap between the actually train and the platform is about 40 - 50 mm's - so less than 2 inches, and everything is perfectly level.
2. The acceleration of the train leaving the station. It is fast and reaches its 100/km/h top speed very quickly.
For Twiz's further info, from this station, it heads under the harbour and arrives at Barangaroo in 2 minutes. Then, another 2 mins to Martin Place, 90 seconds to Gadigal (Town Hall), and another 60 seconds to Central. (Not including station waiting time.

The Parramatta Metro station is going to be where that huge building site is in Church st opposite where the old Peter Wynns used to be.

Yeah, then it’s gonna run pretty much south of the river all the way to Westmead but I would’ve preferred it to go from that big place near the old Peter Wynns to stadium to Westmead

Of course purely because I live three blocks from CommBank Stadium
