Are we giving that much away by moving it to ANZ? apart from the grand final and one of the games against the dogs we won all our other games there, if we're good enough we'll win no matter where it is.

Oh yeah Henson Park was a great saviour for the Jets!

do you think that responding to poster with comments based on the club he/she/it supports is the way to win an argument?

since you brought it up, gentrification of the district they drew their support, a leagues club that was never patroned, and a lack of on-field success in relation to neighbouring clubs such as souths and balmain - and all in an a relatively amatuer area in financial terms - is what killed newtown. they moved to another ground, it still didnt work. they couldve moved to the scg or sports ground. it still wouldnt have worked. moron.

but if you prefer sydney clubs to play each other out of two stadia within the decade then that's for you to live with. i guess not everyone who follows rugby league has an adult IQ. just dont come on here in a few years time whinging and whining about how the AFL-operated ANZ stadium starts to screw clubs in the arse once they've abandoned their suburban grounds and centralised gamedays out at Homebush and the SFS. once the number of NRL-suitable available facilites decrease, then that's the opportunity the ANZ operators and SCG-trust will take advantage of and rort football clubs because they have nowhere else to go. it's exactly what the MCC and Docklands have done in Melbourne.

people associated with league (admins & fans) are fixated with sacrificing everything for a bit of cash, then will lament what was done to achieve it. disassociating clubs from their districts on gameday will be one of this things that will be lost.

even the EPL doesnt f**k with this sort of sh*t. Arsenal play out of Islington, Chelsea play out of Stamford Bridge, Spurs out of Tottenham, West Ham out of Upton Park. All London clubs who fill their stadium to the brim. Dont see them clammering to move games against each other to Wembley for an extra buck.

Risk disassociating yourself from your base, risk losing your identity. and the two teams on the ground represent nothing.

you might want to check the capacity and comfort of those EPL grounds. I am sure if the likes of St's, Manly, Tigers and Parra were playing in 40-70,000 home stadiums then there would be no need to move to centralised stadiums. Maybe when the NRL clubs can afford to be building $300mill stadia each then you might have an argument.

My Mrs was campaigning for this every time the topic came up, now she's disappointed it's happened, as she doesn't have reason to hate Parra anymore.

Try hitting on a woman in a Parra jersey and see how fast that changes...

Promotion is everything. To state the bleeding obvious. It's amazing what a bit of pre-game banter, between players of opposing sides, can do.

I see roughly 30k though.. maybe 33k.

Is Parra stadium really only 20,000 seats? Always looks bigger to me, at least 23,000.

They hope its not awful weather and get a crowd of more then 20,000 , they could end up making less then they would at parramatta stadium

It's a risk no doubt, but it should pre-sell 20k tickets so the weather will only affect the walk up crowd.

Osborne slammed the decision at the time, saying clubs could not afford to be knocking back supporters and revenue during a tough financial time for the code. Two weeks later, the Eels-Bulldogs semi-final attracted a crowd of 74,549.
"That played on my mind a bit, the fact that we criticised [the Dragons] last year," Osborne said.

Nice to see a CEO concerned about the possibility of being hypocritical for a change!

Good move, but only if they top 35k.

Would have been better if it was Round 2. Saints may have had a win in Round 1, and all the Dragons fans would turn up in droves expecting a premiership! Instead, they are last start losers, and Saints haven't started a season well since 1966. ;-)

Totally different situation, these clubs own their grounds and most are quite cash wealthy. Not quite the same situation for NRL clubs who are operating on much smaller budgets. Homebush isnt far from Parramatta, so how is that leaving their roots?

Arsenal just ploughed their traditional stadium and built a new one, Chelsea play in a Suburb called Fulham which has its own team further down the road on the banks of the Thames. Look around london and see what all the kids are wearing (heck even most of the moronic adults) liverpool, man u or arsenal tops. They dont give a feck about their local team, just those 4 that are always winning.

Any good CEO will realise what is good for the game, is usually good for his club. The better the health of the NRL, the easier their job becomes.

Finally we are getting some CEO's that think big time. The life time of the little crappy suburban grounds( not meaning parra specifically) is diminshing.

if this becomes the norm and every team starts playing matches out of centralised stadia, then tribalism in rugby league will die.

it begins with one or two games here and there, then it becomes a regular thing in seasons to come to the point where 8 teams will play out of 2 stadia. teams will lose their district identity and just carry the name of it rather than represent it. it happened in the AFL and now it's just a generic & homogenous piece of crap. there's no real distinction between one melbourne team and another apart from their match day colours, and the players that fill them.

We did used to play the match of the round at the SCG a while back for about 60 years. Didnt hurt tribalism too much. Perhaps if you had an adult IQ, you would have known that ;-)
