The poll has forgotten to mention Parramatta's duel chokes in the 1997 Finals Series.

18-0 up against Newcastle in Week One only to go down.

14-0 up against North Sydney in Week Two only to end up being eliminated.

However out of all those matches Parra botched, Sunday's was the first where I would categorically state they choked.

They choked from the opening whistle and you could see they were panicing every time they passed the ball - even in that opening 15 minutes when their forwards were getting the better of the Cowboys.

I am convinced there will be a big reward for having to endure all this finals pain - the only thing is I may not be alive to see it.

Cheers.

I went 1998
2005
1999
2001

2001 wasn't so much a choke as it was just being blown off the park by a near flawless Newcastle first half (or was it mistake-free?). The other three were blowing big leads against sides they were expected to easily account for.

Aargh, meant the 1998 and 1999 ones for blowing a lead, obviously.

How Parramatta lost to a side that has been the worst in the finals after Manly is beyond me.

There was one forward pass in the first half from Dummy half on 5th tackle. That was the only error.

Easily 1998, the amount of points they gave up in a short space of time.

Great bulldog players that day were polla mounter, Cariage and Silva.

2005 - easily the worst performance by a minor premier in recent memory.

2001 - Regular season specialists with softcock players when the pressure is applied.

1999 - blew a few chances to wrap this game up.

Which match do you view as Parra's greatest choke?

1998 semi vs Canterbury...One of the most memorable matches I've ever seen. Parramatta had a seemingly weaker Canterbury team by the throat for 65 minutes.
The problem was, they decided to play safe. John Simon made some stupid tactical errors and the rot started to set in. Once Robert Relf gave the offload of the decade (sorry Paul Osborne) to Rod Silva, they went to pieces.
I remember the match for the ultra-cool play by the dogs and the total panic by Parramatta. I still can't believe the decisions made by Whereat and Paul Carige that day.
I have never seen a bigger choking display by one man (Carige) ever. I think he never played first grade again after that. Now, he plays fullback for Fassifern in the Ipswich Rugby League.

1999 semi v Melbourne...Very commanding lead against Melb, than got the jitters in that second half.

2001 gf V Newcastle......Total pissweak first half by a team with the best regular season stats in history. Ben Kennedy and Andrew John ripped their dream and hearts apart.

2005 semi v North Qld....Even weaker first half than the 2001 debarcle. The North Qld team is not even half as good as that Newcastle 2001 team was.

My vote goes to 1998!!!!

Here is my order

Parra 1998
Parra 2005
Parra 2001
Parra 1999

f**k, great thread.

So many juicy choices in your list. Last Sunday was bloody hard to ignore, but I've gone with 2001 against the Knights. They simply never got out of the blocks after belting the crap out of everyone all season.

2005 has to be it doesn't it? I mean, they had their worst completion rate in 3 years against the Cowboys and basically played stuffed up every play! I don't know if any other game could possibly represent the meaning of the word "choke" better...

1998 easily.
I was at the game and sitting on the 40m line.
No team should lose when leading 18-2 in a semi final with 11 mins to go.
Ultimate choke

If i remember correctly it was all tied up with 10 seconds to go and i think Carige kicked the ball from his own goal line straight to a Bulldog player who nearly scored the winning field goal.

do you need to bring that up? He kicked it from his own goaline, with all his teammates in front of him!
