Its all the finer details that I am not sure will be good or bad for us.
What would happen to the St George area?

Will it be handed to another club/clubs?

Is the Illawarra big enough to maintain a team long term, Sydney extends to Sutherland then theres nothing till Wollongong, out to the west it quickly has a limited population, and south Canberra has a strong foothold?

What would happen to St George or would it just be Illawarra and the Gordons?

Maybe split the joint venture have Illawarra in Wollongong with the Gordons and then relocate St George?

and so on and so on.
If Newcastle can have a one town team I'm sure Wollongong & the Illawarra region can more than support a team. The name St.George is more than just a small Sydney District and is really universal & iconic. It can transcend anywhere and will always be the name of the the mighty RedV whether they played in the Gong, Kogarah, Mudgee or Timbuktu.
I just feel the future appears brighter on the horizon south of Sydney, rather than die by strangling in a congested Sydney Market. NRL clubs source talent from everywhere these days, so districts are just lines on a map!

Because the whole “Illawarra is taking over” thing is so fresh & relevant of course..

Sorry Muzby, the discussion's not supposed to be about Illawarra taking over. The issue I want to highlight is the involvement of the NRL in SGI's predicament. When I talk about the "old boys" I'm referring to board members and staff from both sides of the JV.

My belief is Illawarra are taking over with the backing of the NRL and the help, ineptitude and self interest of the St George decision makers. I dont think Illawarra are the baddies. If you were being handed control why wouldn't you take it? Its the way change is happening and the disdain for the fans that both St George and Illawarra display that gets to me.

I want to know who's getting what out of all these maneuverings.

Newcastle has a much bigger catchment, there is no team from Sydney to Queensland except for Newcastle. Illawarra is basically just Wollongong (90%? of the population for their catchment).

I think that used to be the case. The bulldogs have taken over group 3 juniors (Taree to port). I think they have taken over group 2 also. They are doing a fair bit of work up this way with player and coach development.

Thanks for that update Ascalon, makes sense because I couldn't see how Newcastle could service that whole area.

Still old and getting older by the second
We all are..

Every second that passes takes us all one second further away from the day we were born and one second closer to the final day of our life..

It’s a sobering thought..

I love philosophy on a phriday...

No worries Carton. Wasn’t a bad pick up for them. It is not a bad nursery considering Boyd Cordiner, Latrell, Jimmy the jet have come out of here more recently, oh and Latimore....

More philosophy for ’phriday’. “Every lie incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later that debt has to be repaid.”
One can only hope the ongoing lie, that is Paul McGregor being qualified to coach a first grade football team, brings us closer to the day where saints parts ways with him and we can get back on track....

What if the lie is told to a person on their deathbed, and no-one else bar the dying person hears it..

If the person then dies without mentioning the lie, where does the dept repayment occur?

Right now McGregor is telling the lie and saints season is on the death bed. No one else can hear as the club is impervious to the supporter bases angst. So I guess we will watch how this pans out to answer that.....

But he’s not telling the lie to the season, he’s telling the lie to the stakeholders..

So even after the season passes, the existence of the stakeholders will persist, so the lie must be repaid then..

But if I am sitting with a dying person, and I know they are terminal but I tell them that they are not - if that person dies in the next minute, where does my debt get repaid?

No religion needed at all..

The truth debt that has been incurred has sits with me, however there is now no-one to repay it to, and no record of the debt..

Or do I need to repay it to myself, and if so how do I do that?

Paralysis by analysis!
