For me there is the spectre of the NRL in the background, and I think much of what we would like will not be allowed to happen.

The rumour was that the NRL pushed the club to accept Gordon's offer, the question if this is true is why?

Sammy old mate , you have your ears to the ground or should I say the club - surely the NRL is not orchestrating the Joint Ventures movements any longer , not after the $6 mill. debt was paid ?

Gareth,
As you know I am not involved with the finances. I would hope not, the NRL it's self but there is influences who would like it to be that way. So we must work to prevent that happening ever.
The place needs a total clean out.
Everyone thinks Mary is the only problem.
Not true he is a part of it but it goes much deeper than that.

Did you know there are whistleblower protection laws?

If it’s as bad as people are saying, you should probably utilise them..

I agree Samy but the irony for me is if the incompetent board can get the football side playing well ( that is make the 4 ) the focus will be off them and they remain under the radar and their jobs are not under scrutiny. This is why i think that the only way change will happen is when these board members feel threatened and then the first casualty will be McGregor and hopefully his staff. Now , if they then replace him with a current coaching staff member or a inexperienced former player than we should burn down the leagues club.

@Carlton ,

You may be right, however this would also make sense from the nRL's viewpoint. The Gordon matter had been dragging on and all NRL HQ would have been concerned about was recovering their debt. Gordon, being a known quantity, from a commercial perspective would have been seen by the NRL board as a safe bet to recoup their debt and keep a franchise viable.

I was afraid of that Sammy , although there was enough evidence to suggest that was indeed the case for quite some time now - it sends shivers down my spine knowing that there may not be much to cheer about for many years to come.

The other bidder also mentioned was known commercially and the extra money would have made the franchise even more viable. There are other reasons why the NRL pushed for the Gordon offer and only the NRL and the "old boys" know what those reasons are.

Somehow I'm sure the NRL have their eyes on the future television broadcasting contract
for renewal in 2022. I can imagine they want to maximise revenue and create a bidding war. Enter WIN up against channel 9.
I'd be sure there's plenty of wheeling & dealing in the corridors of media power and getting their hands on the NRL product.

I think it is all related to the "product" from how the offer is constructed (which clubs and where) to how its being marketed. I believe WIN would love to have the rights to televise for the regional areas they serve and to have a team representing the largest population centre they reach would be gold.

What I would like to know is what deals and agreements have been made because you can guarantee that if the above is true then there are a lot of "details" we will probably not like.

All I know is the NRL will go all out to maximise revenue streams thru TV broadcasting and crowds at the games. They want less Sydney teams that just dilute the crowds and expand into areas of demand.
Sooner or later the Dragons will be pushed solely to the Gong. One home & one heart rather than splitting between two. We shall always remember & honour our great History of the past, but you can't carry it to move forward into the ever changing corporate world of sport.

Its all the finer details that I am not sure will be good or bad for us.
What would happen to the St George area?

Will it be handed to another club/clubs?

Is the Illawarra big enough to maintain a team long term, Sydney extends to Sutherland then theres nothing till Wollongong, out to the west it quickly has a limited population, and south Canberra has a strong foothold?

What would happen to St George or would it just be Illawarra and the Gordons?

Maybe split the joint venture have Illawarra in Wollongong with the Gordons and then relocate St George?

and so on and so on.
