Mad Bastard Tally after Round 5, and we have a new leader!

Tariq Sims charged to the lead conceding an impressive 3 penalties last night.

7 Penalties conceded: Tariq Sims

6 Penalties conceded: Josh Reynolds, Jarryd Hayne, Beau Scott, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Sam Burgess, Aaron Woods, James Gavet, Nate Myles

5 Penalties conceded: Josh McGuire, Andrew McCullough, Michael Ennis, Mitch Rein, Manu Ma'u, Joseph Paulo, Joey Leilua, Kurt Gidley, Lewis Brown, Adam Docker, Jack Wighton, Mitchell Pearce, Jake Friend, Wade Graham, Ashley Harrison, Greg Bird, Jayson Bukuya, Nathan Friend

Big Movers: Tariq Sims 3, Adam Docker 3, Justin O'Neill 3.

Tariq will probably get suspended also for his late hit. Clearly in a competition with his brother. Maybe all three Sims will be the highest penalised brothers in NRL history.

Not all penalties are created equal of course, for example kicking it out on the full doesn't qualify you as a "Mad Bastard"! :)

does make you a dumb bastard though and in ancient times, dumb people were considered as mad

an almost specious link no doubt, but a link all the same

Doesn't a bastard need to be fatherless to be considered a bastard?
I'm guessing they get penalised so much due to absent father figure in their lives.

MU,

Is it too much to ask for a breakdown of what Woods is being penalised for??? Is it in the ruck, hand on ball, holding down, high shots etc or off side????

I'm interested to know. Perhaps a Tigers fan could give an insight into this??

But, but souffs never win a penalty count! The refs always have it in for them...

sadly, it is too much to ask. Those stats aren't being recorded.

Woods gets penalised for being offsite a lot. Those penalties that get blown as soon as the play the ball happens are generally because of him. You'll hear the refs calling him out all game. He plays in front of the line most of the game when he knows he isn't being watched.

His other infractions would be one random penalty he was placed on report for in the Souths game where nothing actually happened at all and he didn't do anything and a couple of times where he got caught up in the ruck and got pinged for being too slow. I also think I may remember one accidental head high tackle in the Souths game too.

If I had to break it down (don't quote me).

4 offside
3 too slow getting off the tackled player
1 high tackle
1 mystery infringement that the ref made up to penalise him

Thanks Mac.

It would be nice if he could get that out of his game before Origin 1 or he'll be crucified.
