Penrith demand puts Puletua in the balance for Kiwis

The plot thickens. Apparently the ankle surgeon that Penrith got their info now concurs with John Mayhew and Chris Hanna that the surgery could be post-tour and still give Tony Puletua plenty of time to be ready for round 1.

I do believe Penrith have confirmed they will hit him in the pocket if he does go....

The guy has said on Radio and in the papers that he wants to tour and Penrith have not denied anything, ifact he has said that tony will not tour...

From what I am reading Penrith are acting in Tony Puletua's best interest and the very fact that Tony has not said a word about this or even been allowed by the New Zealand officials to be interviewed ... says that Tony is accepting what Penrith have put forth. Give it a rest Carl ... at least until we have heard from Tony himself.

And just FYI ... Big Mick is not a moderator of the Penrith section. I am not going to excuse him for what he wrote, it was used as an example to make a point, but I have edited it due to it being a personal attack on you Carl.

Dougsall with all respect Tony has an ankle injury that needs surgery. It's his injury that is holding him back. He was advised by the best Ankle surgeon in Australia to have it done immediately or risk an early retirement. He's 25. Retirement at that age would more fearful over anything else and is most likely the reason he is reluctantly decided to have surgery on Nov. 21.

I am speaking sense Carl. The only reason you would like me to delete it is because it is more realistic than anything you are saying at the moment. Tony Puletua was on IRN radio in New Zealand saying he wished to tour and was disappointed in Penrith pulling him home. So the "I'll wait till I hear it from Tony" fracas can all end once and for all.

Both Pearson and Cordtz spoke to Leary after forwarding Mayhew's report to him. Cordtz pointed out that Penrith's own specialist suggested the decision to tour be left to Puletua

There was a better article that spelt it out more, but I cannot find it. Basically, now the Penrith doctor is saying it should be up to Puletua, which would effectively mean it doesn't make a difference either way.

Look i'm sick of f**king arguing. let the guy f**king play, get injured and come over and miss half the season and he can retire 2-3 years earlier than he should because of two f**king New Zealand matches.

I know someone that had an ankle injury. He had an operation and thought all was ok. He started walking on it too soon and then had another operation to have it PERMANENTLY IMMOBLISED! Is this what you kiwi's want for one of your international boys??? I know I don't wnat that to happen to one of my Panther boys. It is a risk. Look at Marty Lang. He had to retire due to a chronic ankle injury. If T doesn't have this operation he may have to cut his career short just as Marty did. Marty is only 29, Girds kept going til he reached 32 and there have been others that have played well into their 30's. I'm sorry but T is too good a player to have an early retirement forced upon him just becasue NZRL wanted him to play in a test match when he was 25.

I think some people tend to forget that not only is Rugby League a game but but also a business. So of course the club were thinking of themseleves to some extent, if you were paying big bucks for a player who was called up to represent his country and he also had a serious injury which if agrivated could see him sidelined for a while wouldn't you want him not to play rather than pay him to warm a seat in the grand stand for half of the season?

That may be the case but, what are the long term affects. Players suffer from things like arthritis and the like once they retire. If his ankle requires surgery then it must be a bad injury. He may be able to play NOW, but what is his ankle going to be like in the future. Again, think about Martin Lang and his ankle injury.
