'Market' is the test, if the Newcastle A league soccer team could demonstrate that those they market to will be confused, then a Perth Reds are stuffed, so yeah a Perth or Adelaide Reds would be fine imo.
Adelaide Reds would definitely be a no no considering that is the Adelaide A league teams nickname

I doubt there is too many Jets fans left who would support the team through memberships, Sydney games etc so wouldn't see that as any great advantage.

The Newtown Jets do have quite a strong supporter base, but many of their fans are students who go along to games for the old school experience of the league game with the cars inside the stadium and beer served in cans. That sort of stuff.

If they did get back in then you'd get some of their fans come back, but as you said, I doubt it would be enourmous numbers.

Sorry mate, this is pure pie in the sky.

I am a member of Newtown football club, and I have no interest whatsoever. What has Perth got to do with Newtown?

One of the strategic moves the AFL has taken which the NRL has not is total and partial relocation.

Doing so preserves the traditional base (although of course there is some fall out) extends the base to growth areas and creates a more stable broad based support for clubs in every area from sponsorship/membership and general supporters.

Both the Sydney Swans and now Brisbane Lions are total relocations yet they maintain strong connections with their Melbourne heritage. Hawthorn has built a strong connection with Tasmania with their four games there. Tasmania is now looking for another side to start playing four games out of Hobart. Again such gaurantees both expansion and consolidation.

Some NRL sides are playing around a little but true return comes out of long term investment.

Bulldogs I hope step up to the game with Adelaide because Sharks clearly have no sticking power nor true forsight outside their bog of land (which has no gaurantee of development) Southern Sharks is still in my opinion the best option for Cronulla and Adelaide.

The reality is Sydney Clubs are the key because at the end of the day they are the clubs most at risk in our competition.

The Jets idea rings similar in potential (though not as big) because it gives the traditional base continued exposure and the newer expansion areas heritage and stability.

none existed in the same 'market' for fans, sponsors etc.

Years back when the AFL were trying to 'bump' a 'lesser' Melbourne team to Sydney, the Western Bulldogs would not have been able to use 'Dogs' in Sydney if moved.

It's gotta be the Perth/Western Bears.

The Jets are doing just fine at Henson Park as feeder to Sydney teams (currently the sharks). Great day out there.
