Iv been a dragons fan for over 20 years Iv shed blood sweat and tears for this great club and I'm sure most of you have .. That's what makes us different for all the other clubs we have show much passion for our club but alas this is our punishment for loving something so much I don't understand a team like Penrifffff chasing hiku now ? Or parramatta or even at time south shitney rabbits we are a club that is supposed to be a juggernaut in this competition yet we fail to sign marquee players now I speak from experience are we suprised that we get the shit end of the stick all the time ?? Are we really ? Let's take rabbits for example if Iv ever since the worst team to be fielded it was them run down club to busy worrying about "THE BRAND" isn't that right Georgie boy? Now they have one of the most best and feared teams in the comp let's be honest no need to hide behind your fingers face facts here .. If we are interested in quality players why do we seem to be only signing dead beats ..? Take quinlan for example we didn't want him in the first place so why is he back ? Depth player what depth player he's shit and what about Farrell I honestly feel sorry for the guy it's not a nice way to go but he was a deadbeat signing from the get go .. We have the same salary cap as any other team it's just poor management and because of this we fail to attract marquee players to the club .. One day this great club built on history.. Tradition.. Past legends and immortals will rise again and when that day comes you get bet ill be shouting to the top my lungs SAINT BLOODY GEORGE !!!!!!! I don't want deadbeats wearing the famous RED V and as fan if you don't believe in what I'm saying you can go drink a crownie with you deadbeat mate ... Players should be wanting to play for us because it's always beed there dream to put on the RED V like it is for a few other teams out there ... Paul McGregor I take my hat off to you mate your a dragon through and through I speak for everyone when I say you work very hard to bring this club back to glory and we are behind you mate !

In regards to chasing Hiku it would appear that we had very little inside or early information re his preparedness to accept an alternate offer or the fact that Manly were possibly recruiting elsewhere and would potentially offload him.

In the short term we have recruited KFFL 2 years and AQ 1 year which makes me think we were not in the know on this one.

If that is correct we should all be very concerned.

KFFL by signing with us for 2016 will mean we are his 5th club in 7 years with us being 2 of those clubs. Since his FG debut in 2010 he has averaged 10 games per year.

AQ made FG in 2013 and by signing with us will mean we will be his 4th club in 4 years with us being 2 of the clubs.

No doubt as we have purchased them, they will take up space in the roster and occupy positions in the Cutters.

Whilst we make these kinds of investments we will never be able to advance our juniors properly nor will we be able to make the correct offer for the likes of Hiku.

We need to stop buying journeymen and close the revolving door of people who didn't make it with us coming back after they didn't really make it somewhere else either.

Hiku, Lafai and Roberts came on the market after they had already signed Fai Fai loa so unless the club had a cyrstal ball how would they have known they would be available.

Mary has come out and said he has spoken to Hiku and is going to speak to Lafai also taking into account Farrel and his possible retirement freeing up cap space to sign either one of these guys.

How about you wait and see before assuming everyone is concerned like yourself.

Good clubs don't use crystal balls they make sure they know who in the marquee players is a potential to come to their club, get on the front foot and make sure they put plenty of work into it.

I question our knowledge in this area and I see little evidence for me to change my opinion.

How long since there was a creditable headline ST GI going all out to get so and so?

KFFL is a bad buy and so is Quinlan just taking up space.

For the record I never assumed that people were concerned I merely suggested due to the argument I put forward and on the proviso that my assumption was correct that people should be concerned and I leave it to them to make up their own mind if they wish to be so or not.

Well lets see a player has a contract and clubs can not talk to them before a certain time frame but hey don't let that get in the way of anything.

Yes the club could do better at trying to recruit what you call marquee players but if players don't want to join the club what are you going to do.

Credible headlines how does that equate to actually getting some one and how do you know if they don't go all out to sign some one you must be the fly on the wall.

As they say assumptions make an ass out of you.

Penrith joins St George Illawarra, Parramatta in race for Peta Hiku signature

December 7, 2015 4:48pmNathan Ryan
FOX SPORTS

PENRITH have joined the race for New Zealand ace Peta Hiku with the club viewing the centre as an ideal replacement for Jamal Idris.
While the Panthers are also keen on former Canterbury centre turned free-agent Tim Lafai, foxsports.com.au can reveal the Panthers have tabled Hiku a three-year-deal which would tie him to the foot of the mountains until the end of 2018.
The Panthers however have some stiff competition in front of them as Hiku has already received offers from both Parramatta and St George Illawarra.
Hiku has two-years to run on his deal with Manly but after the versatile back was told by new coach Trent Barrett he was free to explore his options, he hasn’t been short of interest.

The Eels are in need of a centre to fill the void left by Will Hopoate while the Dragons could play Hiku in the centres or at fullback.
Hiku wouldn’t be out of place at the Eels with the club filled with familiar faces.

Former Sea Eagles Kieran Foran, Anthony Watmough, Clint Gutherson and James Hasson are already at the club coached by former Manly assistant Brad Arthur.
But the Dragons also have familiar faces with the 23-year-old’s Kiwi teammate Jason Nightingale at the big Red V, as well as former Manly lock Dunamis Lui.
With Josh Dugan touted for a switch to the centres in 2016, Hiku is slated to take over Josh Dugan’s No.1 jersey.

The versatile Hiku can also play centre should the Red V opt to keep Dugan at fullback or play new recruit Kurt Mann in that role.
Hiku is expected to make a call on his future by the end of the week, which will have an impact on Lafai.
With Hopoate officially joining the Bulldogs on Monday, Lafai continues to search for a new home.
Lafai was contracted until the end of 2017 but requested a release following the signing of Hopoate.
The Gold Coast are another club particularly keen on the 24-year-old Samoan international.

Lot's of players under contract go straight to another club with none of the dicking around or after the event stuff we get involved with.

MT from WT to Manly so it was a done deal while the player was under contract and no other club got a look in.

If marquee players don't wish to come learn why that is (current roster, coaching staff, facilities, administration etc) and deal with that issue to make the place more attractive.

As I have posted before in recent times we signed Dugan and Marshall through abnormal circumstances other than that Widdop which at the time was not seen as a huge signing nor necessarily marquee.

IMO we then go back to getting Gasnier back from rugby which was all due to a list of failed arrangements in the first place that caused him to leave.

Other than that it is Bennett (certainly marquee) and Boyd who was on the rise at the time but again not marquee.

The facts are there for all to see we do not secure top class marquee players and have not for a long time. Our success's have come very much on the back of a spine of local product.

If we went all out as you imply the proof of the pudding would be in the eating so end result 1 premiership since 1979 looks like a collapsed soufflé to me.

While assumptions may make an ass out of you from time to time to ignore warning signs is fraught with danger.
