ex players from both codes

fumblers putting all their legendary ... tough.... guys.. up against the NRL's
omfg 🤣🤣🤣
the NRL won 7 to 1
& the only bout the NRL lost was when spud carroll slipped & caught a punch on the way down that knocked him out

otherwise it would have been 8 blot

Unfortunately for Abdo, he did oversee it and signed off on the deal, even though, he wasn't the 'main guy' in negotiations.

This is where the commission is in a complete mess. Why has the chairman taken over and has turned it into a 'one man band'? Whilst the CEO and the rest of the commission have become subordinate to him?
and why is he so worried about the survival of foxtel? ......................................who just gave AFL a huge deal lol
NRL = Nice Rugby League (the nice code)

Apparently if they cough we all suffer, or some other bizarre analogy he come out with lol. This despite the fact AFL just showed that by no means are Fox the only possible purchaser for PTV sports rights anymore!
More likely he was doing his mates a favour for all the money they give him at NSW racing that pays his mortgage lol.

We need to remember that this is the first time foxtel have paid the aflol more then the nrl
last deal was 220 mill for them for 199 games plus 8 finals
while we will get paid 240 mill for 204 games plus 8 finals in 2023 -27

now they're at 370 mill for the same numb of games 199 , (as far as we know) from 2025-31

oh but to be a fly on the wall when Vlandys tells Delany we want at least the same money
370 mill pa & if its no ..... why not ?

anyone would be hard pressed to come up with a legit excuse for the difference I'd think

Definitely not disagreeing with Vlandys’ deal being shit, but why would he be tight with News/Foxtel due to his role at NSW Racing? NSW Racing look after Tabcorp first and foremost. News has a limited role in the racing market, they’re looking to enter it in a more involved way soon- https://www.smh.com.au/business/com...-with-long-term-afl-deal-20220904-p5bf9c.html

Its an incestuous relationship that goes back a long time and has many cross overs.

The newspaper form guide deals are relatively minor compared to the enormous deals NSW Racing signs with Tabcorp for funding arrangements. Tabcorp are about to be directly competing against News in the wagering space too, so that relationship could get very complicated quite quickly.

When no one shows up, it will soon die off
I am sure their aggregate attendance will b more than our magic round. Heaps of interstate visitor and free tickets being the majority of the audience.
Great for the NSW economy. If it is successful (they will spin it as it will be), and is retained as a permanent fixture in Sydney, it is terrible for NRL.

When you take a rivals idea and use it against them. When you have media paying you a motza you can afford to throw the doors open!

QLD pay NRL to have Magic Round up there so crowd is irrelevant here, Not really the locals going would be bad for NRL. We all know it will be 90% AFL states in the crowd though

The whole point of this concept and why governments would bid for it is for the tourism and the money it generates to the local economy.

Fumbleball really should put a plaque up to commemorate V’Landys. He has been their greatest gift.

They should at least buy him a few beers.

I’m sure the interest in Fremantle vs Carlton is enormous in Sydney.
Won’t stop the AFL fudging the figures and calling it a raging success though.

Of course they will. They won’t mention the free tickets.
