Yep and have you tried to travel over Easter and in School Holidays?

You don’t think fumbleball idiots would travel to NSW for these games? That’s the whole point of scheduling them at this time - to get people to travel to NSW instead of other places at a busy time for travel.

All i can say is good luck to them. To be fair, the NRL has taken an origin game in their heartlands for years. But the key with the neutral origin game, is that it is moved around to different cities.

And the same will apply with magic round. For the concept to survive, you have to spread it around. It can't be in Sydney every year. No doubt, they will go to Brisbane. But then again, the WA government could go and bid for it.

They have spent big on that stadium. It would work over there, especially if its timed around a public holiday Monday.

As for the NRL, yeah spread the magic round across the southern states and NZ.

SCG holds 45k well 35k once you take the members seating,

Swans ave 29k- They'd all snap up the freebies

leaves 6k tickets left for the day Swans play, Leaving lots of people without tickets.. So no most will go to QLD like normal and watch it on TV.

You do realise that this is a whole round of games played over seperate days and at seperate grounds. I’m pretty sure that they will have people travelling to NSW for this.

If there weren’t or there wasn’t an expectation for that to occur, the NSW government wouldn’t have bid for it.

They will spin it, fudge their figures and bury the fact that free tickets were given out but they will have people travel interstate much like people do for our magic round

Same weekend NRL should be having a few big all-Sydney games.

Then at another time play an “On the Road” round or over 4 different rounds with 4 double headers in Auckland (Eden Park), Perth (Optus), Melbourne (AAMI) & Adelaide (AO). The 8 away clubs at Magic weekend are the home team for that so giving everyone an equal amount of actual home games again.

I like the double header round idea. Worked really well in Perth where we got 39k to Optus for the last one.

I think they will, The ground availablity issue should see bigger games earlier and later in the year

I guess Sydneys only selling point is 2 large round grounds.. more reason we should have concreted the wings at Accor by now..
If the state government doesn't want to fund suburban grounds, then that's fine. But down the track, Accor needs to be turned into a permanent rectangular ground.

It’s vlandys fault the premier wouldn’t keep his promises and wants to spend millions on afl

lmao

It is if he publicly lacerates him or plays negotiations out through the media all the time

You throw out accusations against the Premier (even if you believe them to be true) and you wonder why he is then so eager to help out the competition?

Clearly the premier deserves it

it’s pretty funny the afls idea to try and grow in Sydney is to copy a rugby league idea

they literally have no idea how to grow their game in nsw or qld lol

Australian sports have now cottoned on to making 'events' during the season and selling them to aid sports tourism. Its a nice earner for the codes and a good justification for State Govts for spending a billion $'s on a stadium.

We've now got:
Magic Weekend
All Stars
NRL Nines (sometimes)
GF (we may or may not sell)
Test matches (though we've now binned mid season ones) but we need to sell more
World Nines, maybe or may have just been a one off
Origin
Double Header round is a good possible new one and can sell 4 events in that round

pretty good events list

You obviously don’t get it. Sure the Premier deserves it but why do you think he or the Liberal government are going to do the game any favours now? For instance, if somebody questioned your integrity in public would you then turn around and help that person? You would help the enemies of that person.

It makes it even worse that the Opposition clearly aren’t going to do it so it is not like there seems to be an overall strategy from V’Landys.

I agree it is pretty funny that they are stealing a good idea. It was always likely that they would (I know Rugby has also tried it) considering the success it has been in League.

I guess V’Landys is the gift that keeps on giving for fumbleball

Wilson went on to outline the proposed four-day, three-venue extravaganza as such:

- Will take place between April 13-16.
- 5-6 games hosted at the SCG.
- 2-3 games hosted at Accor Stadium.
- Potentially one game at Blacktown.
- Free for club members.
- At least two doubleheaders.
- Six-figure financial injection for competing clubs.

With the prospect of a premature start to the 2023 season, should the fixture list commence a week earlier, the proposed date for the AFL's inaugural Magic Round is likely to take place during Round 4 of the upcoming campaign.
