Yeh and grotd should have a meeting to discuss this Singapore idea then write up a proposal to the arlc

this kind of genius is wasted on this forum

I’m just saying that if V’Landys and Abdo think America is a good idea (and let’s face it it is all about $) then there are other places they could play a game.

Also the Sharks CEO stated a similar idea of a global round. So it is not just on this forum

Giving $5m per annum to seventeen clubs to spend on football operations equates to $85m.

$45m will go towards propping up clubs in Sydney.

I thought Sydney was the largest city with the biggest business district in Australia and the home of rugby league?

🤔

That's what I keep hearing on here!

So why does the game need to waste $45m propping up Sydney's clubs?

Could it be that Sydney's commercial sector isn't big enough to support nine clubs, or does it just not give enough of a f**k about rugby league to support them?

If this goes through then Cronulla and Canterbury will get more from the ARLC than sponsorship and hospitality!

The game must be poorly supported if we need to spend so much money on clubs from heartland areas we have nothing left to fund expansion into new markets.

Swans generated $15m from sponsorship and hospitality in 2021. Bulldogs and Sharks got just $3.6m and $4m.

When are people going to wake up and accept that the Sydney market cannot support nine clubs?

Our game is throwing money down the drain keeping unviable clubs alive in Sydney. The result is less money going towards expansion and junior football. The clubs it's propping up aren't growing in size and are losing ground to our main rival. This will come back to bite us on the arse because other sports are growing in all markets.

No one was watching the game in Melbourne until a team was put there. The Storm are watched by more people around the country than the Sydney clubs.

See what happens when you invest in a new market?

Wow I just read that article

I would literally kick Penrith out of the comp for that

fletcher has done nothing but whine since he was ceo Gus did all the hard work there this nobody just inherited it

Blake solly is another dope. He signed a new lease at accor acknowledging no upgrade was happening then tried to wiggle out of it saying the govt wasn’t upgrading it

clubs don’t deserve five million over the cap

thirty percent is already too generous they all make profits now

just bc the arlc is making profits doesn’t entitle them to get a bigger share

they said they are the shareholders in the game that’s bs. The game has multiple stakeholders and they already are funded well enough

the problem with the commission is the clubs and the state bodies have too much power.

the way the clubs are talking you would think they haven’t been receiving record funding for the past few years

rugby league will always be held back by selfishness

It is a Buzz story remember that

Both PVL and Abdo has said clubs are getting $5m over the cap, It is a non issue. Just need the players to back down from their dumb demands then all will be sorted

It’s got direct quotes from the panthers ceo

guys a flop since he took over he should focus on selling memberships at Penrith and leave the running of the game to the experts

amazing those bludgers are getting five million over the cap

imagine if they tried to sell memberships or raise crowds instead of the arlc spending overs on them

'Pressed Again on'

If Fletcher used those words, Then why would Buzz need to press him on saying a rebel competition?

Nope that is Buzz putting a spin on it

If the clubs had any sense, knew of even the tiniest bit about the history of the NRL and past TV deals, or paid any attention to the general sentiment surrounding Vlandy's, then they would have demanded that a 3rd party be employed to negotiate the TV deal or at least not let Vlandy's handle it on his own.

But they willingly let Vlandy's F them in the A. They don't deserve any more money for being so incompetent.

At least Foxtel has an asset though 😂

I can remember him a couple of years ago criticising the NRL admin for not "getting enough bang for their buck " from money spent on junior development. This was just after the NRL`s public image had had to endure the ignominy of the Cody Walker`s midnight drunken street fight / fly kick being all over the news not to mentioned Latrell`s well time covid busting, hunting, shooting and motor bike riding adventures on the mid-north coast.
And Blake wonders why Rugby League can`t get more parents to let their kids play the game . Blame the NRL. What a goose.

A seat on the commission seems unlikely. Worth a crack asking for it I suppose. Unlikely to happen.

The other things like having a say on rule changes, workplace policies, season structure and length of holidays etc seems pretty reasonable to me.

Considering the way the codes been run since covid - arbitrary rule changes and non disclosure of commercial deals and finances, the players demands (besides the seat on the Commission) seems pretty reasonable.

Player demands also seem to reflect a high level of scepticism, if not distrust, of current administration and its performance. All of which is perfectly reasonable in light of the botched TV deals with foxtel and nine.
