See my response to his BS claim.

I've never seen you support expansion outside of Queensland and NSW.

I'm well aware of America's cultural influence over Japan since Hiroshima. It doesn't change the fact these sports needed to be introduced to the Japanese by Americans who stuck around and developed the game, in the same way rugby league was introduced to PNG by Australians after WWII.

How do you think soccer became the most popular sport around the world?

It wasn't due to people watching the EPL on television, as the game was global long before most people had access to an idiot box. The game was introduced to new markets. Our game doesn't bother to grow its presence.

It's bigger than Sydney and has a growing economy that will leave Sydney for dead by the end of the century.

If you cannot see the benefits of establishing a team in this growing market then you're as dumb as dog shit.

I've shown you the annual reports of NRL clubs. You're happy with Sydney having nine professional rugby league clubs that it cannot support. We've got Cronulla and Canterbury drawing just $4m and $3.6m from sponsorship and corporate hospitality while the Swans are making $15m. You laugh at fumbleball's position in Sydney, yet it is doing better than every single Sydney NRL club. Let that sink in.

That's not evidence. It's you writing at the level of a child and being a dickhead.

American Football has been played in London since the early 90s when the now defunct World League/NFL Europe was a thing.

The NBA is massive in Europe and the UK.

You can't compare the exposure that these sports get in US dominated modern pop culture through TV, Movies, Social media to Rugby League.

A team in Asia is a completely unrealistic goal in the next half century, and realistically never going to happen.
British Basketball League was bigger than NFL Europe in England.

NBA isn't on FTA in England and doesn't have its own weekly talk show.

Hong Kong Rugby 7s and a Bledisloe Cup match in Hong Kong suggest it's not impossible for a pro RL team to be based out of Asia. It just needs to be planned correctly and well funded.

NRL offers Asia a friendly time zone that NFL cannot match. Australia's eastern Asian population is going to grow steadily, so it's not as far-fetched as you claim.

Newsflash mate, the Premier League nor Test Cricket aren't on FTA in the UK, and haven't been for decades. Are they not popular in the UK?

A 1hr weekly talk show on a tinpot station don't make it any more popular.

That, and a 1hr talk show on a tinpot station don't make it any less relevant.
Cricket in England has gone backgrounds since Tests were taken off FTA in 2005.

Watch the video. It shows NFL London is bigger than anything the NBA has tried to do in England.

Are they saying that the nrl made $43 surplus but ended up having to give $38mill of it to the players??? so we ended up just $5mill better off after slashing grass roots by $25mill? Solid.
Moral of the story spend your money before end of the financial
year!

so the nrl lied to the players to scam them, and now they wonder why no-one trusts them? Geez our leadership!

And the asset strategy already screwed? Sigh.

The Herald first revealed in February that the NRL had handed over an initial $11 million payment but the RLPA wanted more detail on the game’s financials and organised its own audit of the results. The backpay was subsequently increased to $38m but was finalised only in August, a little more than two months before the CBA expired on October 31.

Our game has no chance of growing with these turkeys running the show.

I can’t ever recall both the clubs and players digging in against the NRL together like this.

Clubs have said they won’t sign off on any deal until the NRL sort out the CBA with the players.

Both clearly see through the smoke and mirrors of current NRL administration.
What would be really interesting to know is if that “Intial” $11million player payment was intended as a final payment. And if the rlpa reviewing accounts turned up some Suss stuff that then made the nrl pay up $38mill?
It’s hard to judge that by the way article is written.
If that is the case then that is massive dodginess and may well be a very good reason that the clubs and players have no trust in the arlc and want much greater visibility of the games finances and seat on the commission.

Yeah it would explain a lot. On another note, was watching YouTube of John Ribot and Chris Johns on Footy Show back when super league hit the fan.

Johns key reason for signing with SL was they’ll give us more percentage of revenue, and look after us in retirement and when we get injuries.

If he signed a three year deal and had a career ending injury SL would honour the contract fully paid for 1st year - then 50% every year for the remainder of the contract. John’s also referenced superannuation and players being looked after in retirement.

Then he referenced a players representative appointed on the SL Commission. SL even wanted to have a coach appointed to the Commission to be a genuine stakeholder.

It’s so funny many request from RLPA in 2022 are basically from the model SL laid out in 1995. It’s phenomenal how the administration of this game has literally gone nowhere from 1995. So rugby league.

I’m struggling to understand how the players extra payment of $11mill can go up to $38mill! What was the agreement? is it based on a 2022 surplus or the 2021 reported surplus?

There wouldn't have been a Super League War if the NSWRL wasn't run by hillbillies.

Laugh all you like @Captain Apollo -- crazy people usually do -- but clubs wouldn't have signed with News Ltd if the ARL was run professionally. Players were paid a pittance, revenue from broadcast rights was just $10m a year because Arthurson and Quayle gave Packer the PTV rights for free until 2000 and expansion clubs like Cowboys had to pay travel and accommodation costs for all Sydney clubs when they travelled to Townsville, as well as their own when they played in Sydney. It cost the Cowboys about $800k a year on top of having to fund construction of The Willows and paying players because they got just $500k from the annual grant. Reds were slugged with the same stipulation. This has been pointed out to you on numerous occasions but you deny it because you don't want to accept reality. You want to blame everything on Ribot and the Broncos.

If the RLPA CEO is in England for the RLWC why didnt pistol pete go? Surely the sensible thing would have been to have had a meeting with him there? Is pistol pete abdicating his ARLC responsibilities by boycotting the RLWC final? Isn't there an IRL meeting straight after to plan the next calendar? There usually is. Is pistol pete more interested in his day job than doing his chairman role?

and WTF does Abdo do for his salary?

Broncos wouldn't have been able to set up a rebel league if other clubs didn't have legitimate grievances with the governing body.
The hillbillies let in the broncos as a private entity with share holders in the first place. Moronic decision - why? Cause the code was broke and they needed $500k licensing fee to prop up Sydney clubs.

Then from ‘88 onwards these hillbillies spent all their time threatening to kick the Broncos out of the comp cause they dared to question why they were the only club making money and the code was broke. These hillbilly types are clearly not the sharpest tools in the shed

The NFL are also playing a game in Germany this week.
The NFL, and other American leagues, starting to take international growth seriously should scare the shit out of most of the major sporting leagues in the world.

Their cultural relevance, resources, and appeal to younger demographics, is a potent mix, and if they're genuine about some of the larger markets globally, and play their cards right, they could really shake the whole industry up on a global scale.

All they'd have to do to completely screw the traditional Australian/Trans-Tasman/South Pacific sports industry would be to actively pursue talent in the market, and within a generation it would become an uphill battle for local leagues to keep the best of the best athletic talent in the country.
