Back to pistol pete. Can anyone explain to me why he just signed a $12million a year naming rights deal with Telstra when our main competitors achieved a $22million a year naming rights deal with Toyota/NAB?

Keeping it in the family....ie. The group of companies who get everything without any sort of competition.

We know the usual culprits.

where did you get the $ amount from?
None of that is naming rights sponsorship, unless its going to be called the Westpac NRLW Premiership?
Pretty sure the Telstra announcement said it was for NRL and NRLW competition naming rights?

From what I can see the NRL has sold naming rights to Telstra for both comps for $12million and our competitors sold mens to Toyota for $18.5mill and womens to NAB for $4mill.

Another outstanding outcome for the game at the hands of pistol pete! I wonder if he went out to market on this one :)

NRL Telstra deal is 18m...with 6m in contra.

The NAB deal covers Auskick and a major mens sponsorship as well.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but industry insiders said it was between $15 million and $20 million over three years. The same amount will be spent on the men’s and women’s games, while the bank will also fund grassroots development programs.

Players had accepted pay cuts totalling $98 million after being told COVID-19 had caused revenue reductions that could be as high as $450 million.
However, the exclusion of forward payments of $60 million from broadcasters Channel Nine (the publisher of this masthead) and Foxtel for the years 2020 to 2022 inflated anticipated revenue losses, therefore potentially increasing the pay cut players agreed to.

The RLPA says forensic accounting firm PKF discovered the error, after which the NRL more than trebled an initial offer of $11 million to players of what it calls “outperformance money”, a term used to describe cash owed to players as a result of the NRL faring better than it had forecast.
An email sent to a working group of NRL club representatives on June 8 by former Nine Entertainment boss Hugh Marks, who the NRL hired to head up funding negotiations with the RLPA and clubs, conceded the error of the omission of the forward payments.

arent westpac a ball sponsor? In which case you'd also have to add in Maccas to theirs on top of the comp naming rights. Like for like and all that!

The NAB deal seems to be similar to the Westpac for NRL and NRLW

More or less with minor differences.

Westpac Deal


The three year partnership extends across all major NRL and NRL Women’s (NRLW) competitions, including the Premiership, Finals Series, Grand Final, men’s and women’s State of Origin series and domestic Test Matches, and both the Australian Kangaroos and Jillaroos teams.

Westpac will also become the official match ball sponsor, featuring on the NRL and NRLW competition balls, as well as across NRL RISE Rookie Academy apparel, from the start of the training season in November 2022.

The partnership officially commences on 1 November 2022 and will also include:
  • Equal opportunities. The RISE Rookie Academy, presented by Westpac, will help find, train and develop the next generation of NRLW players. This will support the league’s growth from six to 10 NRLW clubs in 2023. Westpac’s investment has already provided additional resources to each program including kit, strength and conditioning equipment, manuals and staff education.

  • Community engagement. As an Official Partner of NRL Road to Regions, Westpac’s investment will help grow a program that already gives over 25,000 members of regional communities the chance to get involved with Rugby League every year – as players, officials and volunteers. Westpac will also become presenting partner of the annual NRL Community Awards.

  • Support beyond the field. Investment in the RISE Coach Development Program, designed to develop and empower the next generations of coaches. Participants will receive education in contemporary coaching practices, strength and conditioning, and social and emotional development – so they can provide players with all the tools they need to reach their potent
NAB Deal


NAB has renewed its contract as the naming rights partner of the NAB AFL Women’s competition until 2028.
As part of the agreement, NAB will continue as naming rights partner of Auskick and major partner of AFL Men’s.

NAB doesnt get their logo on the ball. The AFL signed a 10 year deal with McDonalds this year for that (and they sponsor AFLW and the after game kick to kick on the ground)

This extends to the NAB under 18s competitions in both mens and womens comps and the national championships.
