This was a long winded way of saying there's lots of ex-pat Vic's in SEQ.

But despite the bluster, their game just isn't in the cultural zeitgeist of the everyday QLDer, and never will be.

That's why I burr up at people thinking the Yanks will suddenly love Rugby League after watching it once. Because this reminds me of the arrogance and delusion of AFL fans.

According to that other thread Lions are the second most attended club in qlnd. NRL should be ashamed.

The whole participation thing is rubbery as f**k for both codes, unless they are talking about registered club player numberss I dont believe any of them.
When you say the second most attended club in QLD, there is only one other that has the stadium capacity to achieve that so that's a weird thing to say.

Secondly, the Lions have been in Brisbane for 30 odd years and their attendance and TV ratings have been stagnant since the early 2000's. The Dolphins are showing every sign in year 1 that they will outstrip them for attendances within a few years.

Dolphins Suncorp average attendance is 31k
Lions average attendance is 28k

Dolphins shit all over the Lions' TV ratings.

Only if they move every game to Suncorp, win more and start to attract a wider city fanbase. Playing games in 12k stadium isnt helping them.
Playing a few games at Kayo doesn't remove the fact that they have 30k members, 31k average attendance at Suncorp (a true reflection of their fan base) and TV ratings that the Lions would kill for. Hell if the Cowboys relocated to Brisbane next year they'd be more popular than the Lions.

Those comments from their ceo is peak virus spreading Victorian delusion and arrogance. It’s no wonder I have a dislike of Victoria and victorians.

We saw last night why perhaps sacrificing some money from development pathways and letting the clubs spend it on player salaries is an effective strategy in crippling the other rugby code in this country because there was no greater advert for up-and-coming players to switch to or stay in League than the embarrassment that is Australian union, a situation that will only continue as long as they starved of the best talent.
I can only imagine how sick Joseph Sua` alii is feeling now watching the team he will be joining next year.

Just confirmation that ARLC tactic of starving union of up-and-coming talent is working. From today`s SMH.

Desperately sad lack of depth in Australian rugby with their A-side being soundly beaten by Tonga.

Gills a dill for a reason. I’m not taking advice from someone living in Victoria surrounded by yes men telling him the state of the game in QLD. I live here, I see it every day, you see Broncos and Dolphins merch around, plenty of stickers on cars supporting NRL. Sure there’s AFL supporters up here but they’re a minority

Just because the wallabies haven't been at their best, doesn't mean that is at all true.

Australia-A also lost by only 6 points, so I don't know how that can be classified as "soundly beaten". Plus, the Tongan squad on paper is looking the most dangerous they have been in a long time, with the likes of Pitau & Folau.

Participation in rugby league in se qld is through the roof. There are over 1000 teams in Brisbane this year, an increase on the 891 recorded a couple of years ago. Crowds are up and ratings are up in that region as well. The fumblers create false metrics in order to lie about their codes growth. The real data shows that league is in rude health across qld. As for the fumblers? They win the bullshit award.

People on here bag vlandys and abdo

then there are leaders like this

Something like 30k Victorians moved to QLD once the covid lockdown ended. Gill is mistaking that for increased interest from Queenslanders in AFL.

Dolphins 25k average and 31k average at Suncorp. A second AFL Brisbane team would be as bad, if not worse than GWS. That tells you all you need to know.

Gill is trying to deflect attention from how badly the suns are going

the fact the afl media just swallow up his bs show they are a propaganda arm for the afl
