We were on the right track condensing the origin period with the wed-sun-wed schedule.
Then channel 9 chucked a tantrum and used the covid renegotiation to slip the old schedule back in.
And the last year of sunday origin had the biggest tv audience for a long time too.

The players hated the 7 day camps too. Not sure Monday will be better for them

i think the Wed Sun Wed is the best combination.

I would have ran the series like this in 2024:

Round 13 - half round with byes (31 May to June 2)
Origin 1 - Wed June 5th
Round 14 - half round with byes (June 7 to 9) - optional to play
Round 15 - full round (June 13 to 16)
Rep Round - Origin 2 - Sunday June 23
Round 16 - full round (June 27 to 30)
Round 17 - half round with byes (July 5 to 7)
Origin 3 - Wed July 10
Round 18 - half round with byes (July 12 to 14) - optional to play

Each team would get one bye before either Origin 1 or 3 and one bye after Origin 1 or 3 where it is optional for Origin players. That way, teams would only have one match in the season where they have to go without their rep players.

lol, afl talk them Into building a new stadium in tassie and pistol, gets $40mill to stick some lipstick on a pig, what a guy!
Who is they? The feds aren’t funding a stadium in Tassie. In fact at this stage there isn’t even a stadium guaranteed in Tasmania due to the potential cost blow out, the lack of approvals required and on ground opposition. The parties down here can’t even agree which version of a stadium they support.

The feds have committed $240mill to the tassie stadium. Meanwhile pistol Pete is being lauded for getting $20mill from feds for a shthole That needs $200mill.

It’s amazing how many fluff media pieces a favourable tv deal will buy!

They haven’t. They’ve committed funding to infrastructure around the stadium for housing and other projects. It’s part of the precinct but not the stadium build itself. Mind you we are probably playing with semantics. They’ve also declared it doesn’t include GST so we’ve got a brawl over that now. The afl does not want the team or the stadium. Our idiot premier agreed to their outrageous claims and they are now stuck with us. Interesting podcast recently had an afl former CEO stating the tassie stadium will now cost 1.4 billion and will not meet any deadlines for its build. He also stated the afl cannot support 19 teams and the clubs are considering how they reduce the comp to 18 to keep it competitive. As for Leichhardt? Lipstick on a pig.

Will need to find us 100 mill or 2 to complete Perth Stadium's redevelopment too, if they're going to get the nod as expected

Roofed stadium with 23k initially (broadcasters want full stadiums), capable of being expanded in two stages to 30k then 40k. Opposition party is now supporting the stadium. The team has signed up over 100k members in Tas already, and another 100k outside Tas. The AFL media and public support is overwhelmingly positive. It will happen. And it will go over budget. Luckily for them Albo loves handing out the stadium cash and the next federal election is not far away. Now is the time to be pushing for infrastructure spending.

200k members? So a club from Tasmania is the biggest in the country? I smell BS
