PF 2 vs Dogs

I can't see how you can call Cartwright vital and Browne negligible.

Browne was forcing his way into starting at prop for Dogs earlier this year. He would be in the top 17 everyday of the week and is not negligible.

The forward pack is the Dogs strength that is why the prop rotation is like it is. This is pretty straight forward when you consider they have the clubs best winger playing fullback...

I think it's a bit unfair to call injuries. They are going both ways.

Same goes for stating that Isaac John (a current NZ international) is not worth mentioning.

I doubt there would be many neutrals who rate Browne over Cartwright. Obviously both are good players who are highly rated by their respective supporters.

Anyways, i don't know what this discussion is headed. I only responded to your initial post since if inferred that dogs lost due to injuries - when we clearly had as many.

Cannot wait for this week - anything could happen :)

When I say Negligible I'm saying vs the player that is replacing him and minutes played.

And it is very fair to call injuries when our starting backrow and our first line halfback and back up five-eights are out too....

All I'm saying is that Dogs deserve the favourites tag as a result that's all. Blind Freddy could see the impact of players missing impacts Penrith far more than Dogs. Not even close.

Unfortunately I am the same, I just can't see with our depleted team how we can get over them. I just want our boys to give a good account of themselves and hope the finals experience helps us out for next year. If someone told me at the beginning of this year we would be one game short of a gf I probably would have laughed at them, I am just so proud of their effort to get to this point.

Yep agreed.

It's been a fun ride. Would be awesome if it continues. But if not then I'm extremely proud of this team and the character they showed this year.

Classic. I suppose Ben Roberts is counted as a NZ rep too...

Come on mate Isaac John is horrible and not worth mentioning as anything more then a fringe player like I said with Pat etc.

The point wasn't they lost cause of injuries, they both had some out was my point. The Lafai no try was a pretty bad reason for the loss I believe.

Lastly I would take Tim Browne over Cartwright every day of the week. Twice on Saturday! The fact your a Panthers fan may see it different, the fact I am a Dog fan may change my view. Though my point was quiet clear, he is not negligible. He is a quality player. So much so that Des put him into the starting side and moved Kasiano to lock and Eastwood to bench a few times due to his outstanding form. Several clubs were chasing him when he was re-signed. He really has developed into a quality player.

I've said a few time's it should be a great game. Can't wait. The best thing in this as a Dogs fan is I generally have no dislike to Panthers. I am glad one of them will at least make the Final. Hopefully not your mob! Ha Ha!

Funny I expect to win and will be gutted if we don't win. Mind you that is my feeling prior to every game.

I cannot ever recall looking for excuses before a game - for me trying to find the explanations for a loss is best as a post-mortem exercise rather than a pre-mortem.

If your dead before the game then you should not be there - especially true in finals game.

As to pride.

I've have been proud of the team since it first wore the brown and white - even in the darkest of times.

But there have been times I have been ashamed of the club - and some of those times have been during periods of success.

I am getting ready for Go The Mighty Panthers to be played on Saturday Night and again a week later.

John & Yeo hardly a loss to compare to that of the others.

John was a serious loss. He would certainly be in our starting side were he fit. Yeo will probably play in the NSW Cup Grand Final so basically his injury has been covered with depth players like Robinson.

Agree - John was a massive loss, and I am sure he is really rueing the missed opportunity to stamp himself as a regular first grade half. Next year he will also be competeing with Korisau (spelling??) for the back up half sport.

Regaurdless of the result though, we have had a stellar year. If we were at full strength we would be short priced to beat the dogs this week. Exciting days ahead.

I expect Seg to be the difference here. We have worked for the last 4 games without a dominant Hooker. With Seg hopefully refreshed and in a good frame of mind, he could be the next level we need to go to.

Hoping for the same thing I've hoped for every game this season, that they go out give the opposition hell and are competitive. By and large they haven't disappointed so far and I don't expect them to start now.

If they do that, win or loss, I'll walk away proud at the end of the game. Gee it would be nice to go all the way though :D.

We are going to the GF. Sowie isn't done yet. The dogs are in for a hell of a game.

There was a great shot in the roosters game that showed Segs revving up the crowd. If he didn't start that game fully switched on he most certainly was by the end. I expect him to have a blinder this week.

f**king love Segs. What a champion.

I can't agree with John at all. He was below average at the Warriors & Wakefield. Seen nothing at all to change that view.

I think Peachey is your biggest loss believe it or not. Massive wraps on that kid.

Wallace hurts no doubt. Though Peachey is a big out in my eyes.

Though again, Dogs have their own concerns.

Years of disappointment have made me extremely cautious. lol.

I will of course be devastated if we lose and I expect to win too...but I am just being realistic as to the hurdle we have to overcome here.

It's part of my job unfortunately lol and I can't switch it off at times.

We def think alike!! I just said to a mate I think I am generally pessimistic when it comes to our chances because 40 years as a panthers fan has conditioned me to expect to lose. Having said that, I truly believe we are in for some very, very exciting times in the coming years.

Guys, we've beat them twice this year already, we'll do it again. I was very confident before the previous match against this side because I believe we have the players and the game to more than match them. This is a side who cannot score a try after half time to save their lives.

We are no longer depleted either. Not like in 2010 against Easts or 2004 against the Bulldogs when we had to bring in players in huge finals. The depth players have become established. We've beaten plenty of very good sides with these players, better sides than the Bulldogs.

Souths or the Roosters will be tough in the big one, really tough, but we are blessed to get this saloon passage into the big dance in my opinion.

Isaac John played 16 games for us last year at 6, partnering Luke Walsh, of which we won 9. I don't know about Wakefield but thats more first grade games than he played for the Warriors in 3 years. A winning rate of 9/16 makes him a first grade No 6 in my view.

Haha I must have missed Ben Roberts being called up in the starting halves last time kiwis played Australia (earlier this year)....Don't know how i missed that?:sarcasm: Couldn't be more current than that

I am not saying John is the best 1/2 in the comp, but in his time at Penrith he has shown he is easily of FG standard - which he was subsequently rewarded with a NZ rep jersey. Isaac is rightly in our top 3 halves and therefore when Wallace / Peachey goes down - then we need to bring in the likes of Will Smith and is therefore "worth mentioning"

Congratulations on picking Browne over Bryce - each to their own.
I never said Browne was not a good player. I just think Cartwright is better is all - and if Eastwood didn't break his leg then he would be showing it right now.

Anyways lets move forward and agree to disagree

That is a very weird way to view things. His actual ability and what he actually did has a lot more to say then a winning/losing ratio for one player.

He is very much a below average first grader.

My point is quiet simple. Being picked for NZ in the halves is not always a big thing. E.g Ben Roberts.

Lastly who exactly did NZ have to pick from? Foran and Johnson are the only quality halves they have. Benji was gone.

Backs and forwards they have some absolute stars. Though the halves depth is not like Australia. I dare say if you threw up pretty much any other teams 6 or 7 they all pretty much would of been picked if they were kiwis.

As for the Cartwright and Browne debate as I said fair to call it a disagreement. We will see what happens when they are both back next year! Hopefully with the Dogs defending their title! :)
