Needs to kill it in the shield games he plays this year, then he could be on the south African tour if he does that, even possibly a late ashes test (provided our openers fail miserably)

The only 11 players hoping Hughes plays in an Ashes team....well they all play for England! Walking wicket!

Hughes 63 n.o. at stumps. Could be in for a big big big score tomorrow.

He's going to score a pile of first class runs like no one else of his generation can (he is not even half way through his 20s and he has more first class 100s than any Australian under the age of 32 or however old Clarke is}.

If he averages 60 like I expect him to and he'll be first in line when either Rogers breaks down from oldness or Watson breaks down from frailness or Warner implodes again or when Bailey is exposed as the mediocre first class player he is.

I hope we are 0/600 halfway through day 2 of the Brisbane test. But I severely doubt it given the weaknesses in our top 6 that we still have.

Hughes will be there to save the selectors from themselves when his name is called.

In the test before he got dropped he was not out when every other batsman crumbled. He was our best recognised batsman in the first test. Hardly a walking wicket. His numbers against quicks have been world class in his most recent stint. Hardly a walking wicket.

I could score runs on the road that is the Adelaide Oval! The same pitch that Whiteman and Agar looked like Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar combined lol!

Yes Hughes might have fixed his ability against quicks (well sort of lol)...he is absolutely terrible against spin!

That was before Hughes got in the runs.

Marcus North is behind Hughes, Doolan, Khawaja, Klinger and half a dozen others.

You mean when he made a duck? Or was it 1?

Try batting for his average while he let the number 11 spinner on debut try to salvage the innings for the country.

Phillip Hughes with his 22nd first clas ton. He is 24. No Australian under the age of 32 has more tons than him.

On a pitch that is clearly flatter then a pancake

Even Bunniesman would score runs at Adelaide Oval

Hughes with a strike rate of 47, what a selfish plodder.

The odds of SA winning were virtually zero after WA batted for almost 5 sessions. It was all about not losing and getting 1st innings points.

He has now got his first career 200. Phil Hughes is back. Automatic next in line to be picked.
