Yeah Marsh and Whiteman have done ok but Hughes isn't competing with them. He was the best of the top order bats. He is the next opener in line without doubt.

The rest of the cricketing world is very keen on Phil Hughes getting back in the Australian team

Openers ahead of Hughes would include Marsh,Watson, Doolan and possibly even Maddison. Boof does not tolerate the rubbish Hughes has churned out, you need only look at the way he blew up at Maxwell for throwing his wicket away in th ODI series last summer if you want to bat like that you can watch the game from the stands.

Getting away from BM's delusions that Phil Hughes is a capable Test batsman, Australia A have dug themselves out of a big hole.

Yea Marsh and Whiteman have batted really well and shown the sort of composure required for test cricket especially since Hads had had to do that so often over the past 12 months. Whiteman, Handscomb and Carters are the stand out young keepers, personally I think Carters and Whiteman are slightly ahead of Handscomb thou he is an excellent player of spin.

Do you reckon Chris Martin will be keen to come out of retirement????

Distinct possibility, still looks pretty lean (running a supermarket now, I think), and I am sure if Hughes name is mentioned there'd be a spring in his step, and a sparkle in his eye

geez, we actually passed India's score thanks to 2 batsmen, yet all the top order failed

5 Centuries
3 Scores of 150+
2 double tons

in 4 days...but the real story is PJHAH's majestic 34. :sarcasm:

Let's not get on the Whiteman bandwagon too early. That was his first ever first class century. Let's see him get good scores consistently. Nevill is probably ahead at the moment.

I still think Nevill is marginally ahead in the backup stakes but a solid season for Whiteman may see him jump him.
