The damage done to the code from Sydney writers is beyond belief.
They have single handedly stopped the code from growing.
The game has now been stagnet for over 10 years, with memberships nearly out-doing crowds figures each week.
(so no new walk-up fans to games)
When is the NRL going to start writing it's own stories, start broadcasting from it's own base out of Sydney and Brisbane, and even Auckland.
This code needs to start to wake up to how to promote growth through a better night broadcast show/program, where access to the players and coaches is a lot better than what we have now,,,,,, just some sit-down shows with little to offer except complaints of the week before.
The game has done enough complaining over the years, give us some proper feel good league stories, of growth, the players, and grass-roots, of all clubs and all areas. .

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/draw-highlights-lack-of-fairness-in-current-structure-writes-phil-rothfield/story-fni3fbgz-1227157107463

PREMIERS South Sydney are the biggest losers in an NRL draw released on Monday that again highlighted the lack of fairness in the competition structure over 26 weeks.

The Rabbitohs have been dealt a shocker with no byes before the three State of Origin games and 13 matches against their top-eight rivals from last season. Other clubs, the Newcastle Knights, Raiders, Warriors, Titans and Wests Tigers have only 11 games against top-eight teams from last season.

The Knights are drawn to play last year’s top-eight clubs the Roosters, Storm, Bulldogs, Rabbitohs and Manly only once in 26 rounds while other clubs play them twice.

DRAW INTEGRITY

The Knights have a softer draw than any other team on 2014 form. They play all the weaker 2014 teams twice but the best sides just once.

They play only one top-eight side from last season in the first seven rounds of the competition, giving comeback coach Rick Stone the chance to get a flying start.

The Raiders, Warriors, Titans and Wests Tigers also get a soft draw with only 11 games all year against 2014 semi-finalists. At the same time the Eels have 14 games against top-eight opposition.

The draw is also affected by teams playing other teams twice within a month.

In the first 10 rounds, the Manly Sea Eagles play the Storm twice, the Bulldogs twice and the Panthers twice.

Stop the presses, people!!!!!!

turns out sports are no perfectly fair.....

I would suggest that stronger teams should get a stronger schedule (if you classify 13 vs. 11 games against top 8 teams even significant).

In the NFL for instance division winners play other division winners from the previous season for the 'make up' games played outside their own divisions H&A.

He should be praising the NRL for applying a salary cap of sorts to the draw giving weaker teams a weaker draw to make the competition closer. Although having said that, I think in the NRL when teams move up and down the top 8 so often comparing a future draw based upon the previous top 8 doesn't hold much weight.

I think I also read that Souths only leave Sydney once after round 13. Surely that would be some sort of advantage. Parramatta get to play every team outside of Sydney away this year. Everyone's draw has pros and cons, its the nature of a competition that is so spread out geographically and relatively close competitively.

I do agree with the A@L on this point. If teams are going to play each other twice the games should be spread out.

Byes before origin shouldn't be a consideration for Souths anyway given they only had one Origin player in their GF team (excluding McQueen who is moving on). Walker might make it 2, but hardly worthy of getting a favorable origin bye.

The reason the Warriors get byes during origin is so they aren't collecting easy points beating up depleted sides.

Exactly, the author doesn't look at the big picture.

For example, he also conveniently fails to mention that Souths get their byes in Rounds 15 & 18 ( after Origin 2 & 3 ). That means players like Inglis, McQueen, Glenn Stewart or Walker won't have to back up for 2 of the 3 NRL rounds after the 2015 Origin series. Some rep players prefer not having the burden of playing a few days after the interstate clashes. When their Origin players have to back up, it's in Round 12 against the Titans who will more than likely have Myles & Bird backing up & maybe Taylor.

Also, Souths play the Eels in Round 11 without Watmough & maybe Hopoate. Then it's the West Tigers in Round 14 who will have Farah & Woods out, then the Panthers in Round 17 possibly without Moylan & Mansour.

I'm not having a go at Souths, but just showing that as usual, it's a superficial article from the author who has an agenda but hasn't really looked at the impact on all 16 teams.

One of the NRL guys was on BSB this week and said that this was down very low on their list of priorities. They have the draw so that you don't play each other within 4 weeks but other things were much more important than that.

OSSIE OSTRICH HEAD IN THE SAND AWARD

NRL boss Dave Smith is out of touch with fans and clubs on everything from suburban grounds, daytime footy, player behaviour, salary cap, player burnout, staffing appointments, wasting money … NRL stands for No one’s Really Listening.

POOR DIDDUMS

Aw, Smithy had his feelings hurt by Paul Gallen’s tweet that he fined him 50 grand and banned him from next year’s Test match. Yes, Gal was out of line — but the punishment was so severe that Judge Paul Conlon quit as judiciary chief over it.

clearly no agenda as the Union twat keeps saying

this:
WHAT’S UP, DOC?
I’m no medic, but I don’t know how big Sam Burgess was allowed to play out the match when another serious knock might have ended in disaster. Was it foolish or gutsy? You decide.

BEST SIDELINE INTERVIEW
“It’s f. ked. It’s gone.” Sam Burgess to Brad Fittler when asked about his cheek at half-time in the grand final. Dr Buzz could have told Freddy that.

then:
SATTS ALL, FOLKS
Sam Burgess, playing 80 minutes with a busted cheekbone, said farewell to the NRL with a grand final performance that will go down in folklore alongside John Sattler’s 1970 broken-jaw game.

just dumb. let's bag it, then praise it.

NRL SHAKE-UP

Confidence in the NRL administration remains at an highest low and I’d be surprised if Dave Smith and/or John Grant survive until this time next year. The game desperately needs more entrepreneurial skills and people in power who actually know and understand the game. The fact South Sydney won a fairytale premiership with those amazing scenes of celebration on grand final night only camouflaged serious problems that exist. People with real sporting experience like Penrith’s Warren Wilson, racing’s Peter V’landys and John Quayle should be involved in the administration or on the independent commission.
