Abraham played a few games of firstgrade as a fullback in 2000, and a few games as a backline utility in early 2001. He proved he was too slow as a firstgrade fullback, and was dropped back to PL and switched to lock where he was an instant success, and played quite a lot of the second half of 2001 as a benchie in firstgrade, including the grandfinal where he had some gametime and played above himself.
The other funny thing about Abes is that he was one of the few Knights juniors who was dropped back to the local comp (for Lakes United I think) after his Flegg year - played one year in the local comp, mostly as a second row forward, and got a second chance at the Knights, as a fullback. His year in the local comp as a forward probably saved his career, because he was probably on the way out if he hadn't been able to click as a forward immediately.

That was the year, and saints went on to win the grandfinal in a canter.
That year we were doing nothing till about halfway through the season when Kidley got promoted from Flegg to PL (Flegg were top of the table when he got promoted - but finished about 6th). Kidley had to deal with the awful James Wynne at halfback, who wouldn't give him the ball for love nor money, but Kidley went hunting the ball and scored brilliant individual try after try to pull us from near the bottom of the ladder to the semis. Just before the semis Wynne got injured, so John Morris and Kidley teamed up in the halves and, with our excellent backline which included Petersen, Sweeney, Quinn, Franze etc, we gave the finals an awful scare.
We also won a few games because Daniel Abraham was dropped from firstgrade as a fullback and was switched to lock, and was an instant success scoring about 5 tries in as many games - but he was back in firstgrade by the finals.

Thats right Kidley was the best player in PL that year, even though as you stated, he only got there half way through. Its strange to think that when the game was tight at the end of any PL game, we would all yell "Give it to Gidley!!!!"

Strange how times change....

On the Tyrie issue, thats correct. He was promised as Johns alternate if injury and SOO. He was promoted to the top 25 and never even got a bench spot. I think he was dirty at the club and you could see it in his game. Is a shame cos I thought he was pretty good.

Edit
I have the wall mounted Premiers poster... Abraham was wearing 17, though I dont recall him getting in the game.....

why pull more guys out of the flegg side, when they are such a good chance at winning the title this year?

To OBVIOUSLY gain experience playing in a harder competition. That is how players develop.

In todays Herald, on page 91 there's a picture of Dane Campbell, with the caption underneath reading
RULED OUT: Lakes halfback Dane Campbell will miss tommorrow's clash against Raymond Terrace with a knee injury
Is he still injured, or have the paper just got it wrong in this case?

it is obvious... but there is no point in being in a losing side, and gaining experience in loss. when you can be in a team that is winning and most likely going to win the grand final.
remember last year there were some players that didn't get to experience a win in FG, this lowered their self confidence... that to me is not good experience and it is not a good way to develop.

If it was obvious she wouldn't have asked.

thanks.. lol

Dissapointing, The must be something wrong with our Premier League team since our other teams are doing really well.

Well they are missing a few key players and Raiders are usually around the top in PL.

But still you think we would be higher than we are now which is like 12th.

Yeah True looking at the raider premier league line up and i think we did pretty good to keep up with them.

Scott Dureau played halfback for Campbell
Hunt played 5/8 for Tighe
Tolar played and Snowden dropped back to Flegg.

Dureau made a great break and set up Thurston for a try.

Stephen Gordon went better than i thought he would - he was smashed last season when he went up to PL - but he was physically up to it this time.

Hunt had a shocker.

Tolar and Abraham both looked good. Abe's was slow back to his line on many occasions, but he showed some real touches of class.

every player in flegg would have a desire to make a step closer into going into first grade. Making a player stay in jersey flegg is a slap in the face. A players development is benefited much more going into a losing reserve grade team, then spending wasted time in a winning jersey flegg team. I would consider that pretty obvious.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, our PL side are very disappointing this year. They should be going a whole lot better than they are this year. I'm just waiting for them to click into gear. It'd better start soon though, cos the season is almost halfway through.

Hunt, Thurston and who else scored our tries? I don't remember the ground announcer saying who scored our second try. Anyone know who it was?

oo i don't think any flegg player will say to you "playing in this great winning flegg team is wasted time" seriously!!!!!!!
i so disagree that player development will be increased by being in a loosing PL team.
also can you not read? did i not say it was obvious?? in regards to you saying and i will quote it

Young has nothing.
Grant, Steel and Hunt are all 21 year olds with a good chance of making firstgrade still - and all are experienced locks.
Young is obviously a great club man, but it must be time he makes way for a younger guy.
Steel was our best player in Flegg last season, and deserves a shot.
